I read "The Autumn Castle" as a genre read during my first term in WPF, and enjoyed it quite a bit. (Review is here.)
Somewhere in my to-read pile is Giants of the Frost. I'll probably pick up Veil of Gold when it comes out in paperback.
I they're supposed to be a Trilogy of sorts: The Europa Suite, three fantasies that draw on European legends and mythology. (See toward the bottom of this interview: http://www.tabula-rasa.info/AusHorror/KimWilkins.html)
And if you go searching about the internet for the other books, you'll see quite an array of cover art. ;)
I'm going to have to track down those titles via used bookstore. I was really interested in GIANTS OF THE FROST when it came out, but I missed the boat.

A friend drew my attention to your review (via Library Thing) and I've just read it with a big grin on my face. Writers always have in mind the perfect audience for their stories, the one person who will understand and love it just as we do. So thanks so much for your thoughtful, intelligent review.
So glad you enjoyed this! I'm wondering how many people will take me up on this dare, simply because I had a few people comment they'd had bad luck with her in the past and weren't going to bother with this one.
I pulled up your review yesterday, but didn't have time to sit down and read. Will try to do that today. :)
The two titles that I was given are out of print in the US, but I got them through online used book stores and haven't read them yet: Giants of the Frost and Autumn Castle. Since I haven't read them, I can't compare, though I'd heard great things about those titles too!
I tried to get ahold of Who Fears Death but due to the postal strike here, I couldn't order it without it arriving late anyways. So I went for the dare instead and I loved it!
Just to elaborate on my review since I didn't want to include spoilers: I thought Rosa's secret was lame, not because it was not mystical, but because I just thought it was kind of lame. I mean, really? Give up everything because of the threat of a disease that may ruin your mind? I don't know. I guess it doesn't matter because there's a resolution to her and Daniel anyways.
It feels like forever since I've read this, so I can't comment properly now, looking back, on how I feel about her secret. It's something to consider, what certain diseases might do to your outlook on life. Heck forget even diseases: I know a guy who loves kids, but doesn't want his own because he knows what kind of burden he was to his mother, and doesn't want his kids to burden him. Or something like that. It's weird... :)
But I'm really glad you loved this! And when you DO get your hands on Who Fears Death, I look forward to your review of that too!
Yeah, I sympathized with her fear but felt let down after so much build up to her secret. But overall I think Wilkins likes to flip expectations (such as Daniel being the weaker one, not the women) and so it makes a kind of sense to me she would give a non-mystical reason when probably everyone expected a mystical one.
BTW, I checked Amazon, there seems to be some copies of Giants of Frost and Autumn Castle available :)
The strike started at the beginning of June, but they were still delivering 3 days a week. Then Canada Post locked out the workers 2 weeks ago and ALL service stopped. It sucked. They finally got back to work on Tuesday. I sent off your book yesterday (I had to wait until after the lockout) and they said 5 business days so here's hoping :)
I just finished reading this book recently and I really liked it. I actually started it back in June, but I didn't finish it until now. I loved the worldbuilding and liked how the plot worked out in the end. It started slowly and then built into something lovely. I'll definitely be looking for more of Kim Wilkins' work.

How long have the postal workers been on strike?
