And if Reason extinguished all magic in her family, how was her daughter born with it?

Yeah, it's shaky logic, but I think the idea was that the Cansino magic was different from the regular magic that, say, Tom had. So the kid was born without Cansino magic, but ended up with regular magic anyway.

Like I said, shaky logic.

I agree with you, Magic Lessons was definitely the strongest book out of the three. Magic's Child was a bit of a disappointment to read after waiting so long, but IMO it was a good trilogy all the same. :)
