(I echo the suspicious sentiments that we never DID find Mad Eye's body)

The ministry/death eaters diposed of it after popping the eye out of his head and sticking it on Umbridge's door.

as did Lupin's and Tonk's, which felt needless in the overall scheme of things.

they were needless. she said in an interview that she was going to kill off mr weasley in book five, but when she didn't do that, she needed someone else to kill off. lupin was picked, and then joined up with tonks in book 6 so they'd have enough time to have a baby before being killed off and leaving a ham-fisted "echo of Harry."

Yeah, I figured Mad Eye is really dead, due to the eye, but I kept expecting him to show up in some kind of zombie army, or something. :)

I agree with you 100%! Only I sadly was much less than satisfied with this book, I thought it to be very messy. I've been a Potterite since the very first book came out - I was 14 years old and no one had heard of it at my school, there was no hype and it was just book 1 and book 2 that'd been out - have been an avid Potterite since then.. but this is the book I LEAST enjoyed.

I didn't notice/mind the colons. Did you mean semicolons?

Oh and I cam here from Bookish!
here is my own HP review complete with a link to my early theories (most of which, I am most pleased to say, panned out!)

Nope, definitely meant colons. I can take another glance through the text, and there is the possibility that the printing is such that a semi-colon LOOKED like a colon, but I'm pretty sure they were colons. Semi-colons wouldn't have bothered my quite so badly, and they're supposed to be used in the place of periods. :)

On one hand, I'm pleased that it was just THE TRIO who set off to destroy the Horcruxes.... On the other hand, I really, really wanted Ginny to show up and BE USEFUL. To PROVE her "worth" to Harry

I've always been a bit non-committal about Ginny. Yes, it would have been nice to see her brought a bit more to the forefront, but she's really a secondary character, much like the rest of Ron's family.

Oh, and may I say that I really, really wanted Sirius to come back somehow? And more than his brief mention at the hand of the resurrection stone. It seems like EVERYONE is saying this...I'm in agreement. I would have liked to see Sirius come back. I'd also have liked an explanation of why, in Harry's darkest moments, his deceased loved ones always seem to come back to help him. That almost seems to me to be another element of their magical world and something rare, like speaking parseltongue ( ... )

I didn't pick up on that, no. Hmmm...maybe I'll pay better attention when I re-read this book one day. :)

Well, well. This is the first major spoiler post that I've read since finishing the book on Saturday night. So happy to be able to participate ( ... )

I can agree with all of that. :) I think books five and six were my least faves, because in five Harry was way too angsty and I hated Umbridge with a passion, and in six I thought spent WAY too much time on who was hooking up with who. Both books only commanded my attention when Sirius and Dumbledore died.

Stand alone books could be fun. I've heard that if Rowling ever decides to write non-YA fiction, that she's going to use a pen name since her own name is so synominous with Harry Patter. Who knows? It'll be interesting to see where her career goes, should she choose to build one outside HP, but I hope she doesn't rush anything. I still feel, on some level, that these books were rushed.

Speaking of five, I think the movie version did a good job of touching upon the angst without having it overwhelm the movie. I actually like the movie verse better than the book verse and unlike the book verse, I think the movies are getting better with each sequel.

Movie #5 was awesome. Though I'm dreading movie #6, and I'm really hoping they don't let all the teenage matchmaking take over like Rowling let it in the book. :-/

Yeah, I finally got the Neville pulling the sword out of the hat thing - though I do think my husband pointed it out to me, heh.

And sorry for that Ron and Hermione spoiler - I decided a long time ago that they would end up together and that none of the main trio would die, so it sort of slips my mind that other people haven't been in that mindset. I actually took it for granted before the last book came out. I have no idea how my brain works, but there you have it.

I agree with most of what you said here - as you know, having read my own thoughts about it. And since it's creeping closer and closer to my bedtime, I think I'll leave it there. :)

No worries. :) Rowling made it pretty clear at the end of HBP that Harry was IN LOVE with Ginny and that Ron and Hermione were finally getting over their differences. About the trio surviving, I never felt that was set in stone, but in hindsight, I should've seen it coming. :)
