Expanding the number of books you can nominate has done wonders for the polling, so I have to say, I'm pleased with that change: 10 people made 76 nominations (not everyone chose to fill all ten slots), and you all have been nominating since… well, for a while now! I decided to announce your May dare to me now that my review is up for your April ( Read more... )

This is one of my absolute favorite series, and pretty much the standard I hold fantasy books up to when it comes to neat worldbuilding ideas. I just can't equate the subpar work that Carey's put out lately (Saints Astray, Dark Currents) with the same person who wrote the Terre D'Ange books.

Alas, Dark Currents fails too? I haven't been drawn to it, because it looks super-generic, but I was hoping I was wrong about that. . . :(

Yeah. "Super-Generic" is really a good way to describe it actually...

YAYAYAYAYAYAY!!!

Like hani I *adore* the first two of these trilogies, and even the third trilogy was interestingly problematic. My absolute favorite book ever, though, is the third book in this first trilogy -- Kushiel's Avatar. So I *really* hope you're inspired to keep reading after this one!

I've got the first full Kushiel trilogy and then Kushiel's Scion after that. I loved the first book, just didn't have the right time/opportunity to finish the trilogy.
