Speculating Television: Fringe Friday!
Today is it. Series finale. I'm not sure I'm going to be able to handle it. :) But just so you know: there will be at least one, perhaps two, Fringe Fridays following this one in order to process that series finale as well as the series as a whole.
But let's talk about last week's episode before we get out our tissues and sob uncontrollably. Here are some thoughts on 5.11, "The Boy Must Live."
1) For a while, I thought Michael was going to be September's younger self. I was wrong. The truth, of course, is far more interesting.
2) Talk about a new twist on an old quote: "The boy must live." Now I want to re-watch the show with this new context.
3) I was super-fascinated by Donald's, erm, origin story. See, I was thinking the OPPOSITE was true, but it's cool to learn I was wrong and why.
4) We got the official origin of the Observers! Now we can infer why there aren't any women!
5) But I think the lack of women Observers might change in the series finale, if the preview was any indication.
6) This episode set up up for things that I've been assuming will happen all along. Which leads me to wonder: is that what I want? Or will Fringe yank the rug out from under me and subvert my expectations?
7) If Donald & Walter's plan does somehow manager to come to fruition, would this mean that Peter won't exist anymore after Reiden Lake? Surely the writers won't do that since that was the whole premise behind the previous season, but with all this time-travel trippiness going on, one must wonder.
8) We saw, for the first time, the world the Observers hail from. INTERESTING!
9) Walter! Oh, I heart you. You were absolutely wonderful in this episode!
Now, let's see what the SERIES FINALE has in store. Set your DVRs accordingly: it starts an hour early!
