Synopsis
The city burned beneath the Dreaming Moon.
In the ancient city-state of Gujaareh, peace is the only law. Upon its rooftops and amongst the shadows of its cobbled streets wait the Gatherers - the keepers of this peace. Priests of the dream-goddess, their duty is to harvest the magic of the sleeping mind and use it to heal, soothe . . . and kill those judged corrupt.
But when a conspiracy blooms within Gujaareh's great temple, Ehiru - the most famous of the city's Gatherers - must question everything he knows. Someone, or something, is murdering dreamers in the goddess' name, stalking its prey both in Gujaareh's alleys and the realm of dreams. Ehiru must now protect the woman he was sent to kill - or watch the city be devoured by war and forbidden magic.
As I've already read and enjoyed Jemisin's debut fantasy trilogy (in fact, we read her novel debut The Hundred Thousand Kingdoms in November 2010!), it's safe to say I'm more than looking forward to seeing what Jemisin's next fantasy project has to offer. Even better, it's only a two-book series, so it's not a huge time commitment, especially if you can't wait to get to book two, The Shadowed Sun! I'm also looking forward to this because based on Jemisin's past work, this book/duology looks to be a strong candidate for the Hugos, and what better way to get a head start on nominations than to read the books now?
We'll be discussing this on Wednesday, November 28th, so don't miss out! Tell me what you loved, what you hated, whether or not you'll be reading more by this author. I can't wait to hear your thoughts! Want to receive a monthly notification for what's happening in the 2012 book club? Details are
