Weekend Update: Playing Catch-Up

Aug 26, 2012 15:49

Fall is right around the corner, and I thought I'd sit back and do a general update about the blog, so let's have a list, shall we?

1) Blog schedule: I know: you've been getting reviews daily for two weeks now! I'll admit, it's a little exhausting, but I had this THING where I had to have the Olympics on, yet I had to be doing something else too while watching them. Hence, I read a lot of books, which is why there have been daily reviews the past two weeks. The Olympics are over, and those reviews from that reading period are posted, so we should be getting back to a normal schedule of 2-3 reviews per week. For those of you tired of my clogging up your friends list, rejoice!

2) September brings my biggest month of pre-orders. I kid you not: there are six pre-orders coming in next month, which immediately fills my monthly quota for new books. As a result, unless I have a new book in hand, I'm just going to grab something out of the TBR. I'll also be going on vacation soon (shouldn't affect posting or the blog), and I plan to read just whatever happens to be on my Kindle. Needless to say, we should have an interesting mix of reviews starting mid-September.

3) The fall television season is starting soon, and I'll probably be babbling about that in the coming weeks. So if you're something of a TV hound, like me, that's something to look forward to.

4) Also something to look forward to: Hugos will be announced next weekend! I can't wait to see how my votes compare to the winners, and I'm sure I'll have PLENTY to say about all of that. I'm really excited to see who wins though, which makes sense, given that this is the first time I've voted.

5) Can reading be bad for you? What about movies? Television? Yes, they can, but not in the way you might have imagined: 5 Ways You Don't Realize Movies are Controlling Your Brain. This article was fascinating, and well worth the discussion. I particularly liked the part where the racism of The Lord of the Rings is discussed.

That's all I have for now. We'll be discussing our August book club selection on Wednesday, but in the meantime, look forward to things getting back to normal over here!
