Synopsis

The Hugo Award-winning classic, now available in a trade edition for the first time.

Pell's Station, orbiting the alien world simply called Downbelow, had always managed to remain neutral in the ever escalating conflict between “The Company,” whose fleets from Earth had colonized space, and its increasingly independent and rebellious colony worlds. But Pell's location -- on the outer edge of Earth's defensive perimeter -- makes her the focal point in the titanic battle of colony worlds fighting for independence…

C.J. Cherryh is a classic when it comes to the science fiction genre. When I finally got around to reading Cyteen, I knew I had to explore more of her work, and Downbelow Station was next on the list. I can't wait to finally get around to finishing this (I started this a couple of years ago and put it aside: not because it was bad, but because the timing was bad), because the book, like the author, is such a classic in the field.

We'll be discussing this Hugo Award Winner on Monday, May 28th, so don't miss out! Tell me what you loved, what you hated, whether or not you'll be reading more of Cherryh's work! I can't wait to hear your thoughts! Want to receive a monthly notification for what's happening in the 2012 book club? Details are here.
