I was going to say the same thing temporaryworlds said about Grimm--that is, it's a police procedural with monsters in it. The plots of the episodes themselves are loosely based on various fairy tales.
Like, in the first episode, a little girl in a red jacket was kidnapped by a wolf-dude. There was also a "Repunzel" episode, but there have also been episodes based on lesser-known fairy tales as well as non-European fairy tales (there was one that involved a Japanese tale, for example).
Basically, the idea is that the Grimms wrote their stories about real creatures that disguised themselves as humans, these creatures are still living among humans today, and the only people who can see their true nature are the decendents of the Grimm brothers.
The main character, Nick, is a police detective in Portland, Oregon, which is going okay for him, until his aunt drops the bombshell, pretty much on her deathbed, that he's one of the last Grimms. Mayhem ensues.
It's a really fun show, dark and creepy in a really cool way. I definitely recommend it, if you're at all interested in the premise. I've gotten hooked on it, if you can't tell. ;)
