Weekend Update: Ask A Question, Any Question!

Mar 25, 2012 12:09

Maybe it's because John Scalzi was doing reader request week, but I had the bright idea this morning to do something rather similar. What does that mean? Well, it means that YOU, dear readers, have an open forum to ask me a question about anything you want.

Well, not anything. I really don't want to get into politics or religion or other social ( Read more... )

Have you seen The Hunger Games movie yet? If yes, did you like it? If no, are you planning on seeing it?

I have not yet seen it. The plan was go to with some friends on Saturday night, but the lines are so long for the shows that we all decided we're going to wait until the younger crowds clear out. So I definitely plan on seeing it, but it may be a couple of weeks. That said, I've heard nothing but good things, even from people going in thinking it'd be Battle Royale Lite, so I'm optimistic. I've also been listening to the soundtrack, and while I'm not into country/folk/bluegrass, it's surprisingly enjoyable.

Sometimes I'm glad my local theater is kind crappy, because I don't have to worry about long lines very often. I ended up seeing it yesterday, and even though I was surprised with some of the choices they made, I found myself pretty happy with it.

Oooh, that's a good question... maybe one to two hours, depending on the day? But there are days when I don't read AT ALL, or only get to read for 30 or so minutes. And when those days happen, I go into marathon mode and will spend half a day reading (of course, I work 8-5, so those marathon hours are either after work or on the weekends).

Have you read anything by Terry Goodkind or do you plan to? Or have you seen Legend of the Seeker?

I've not yet read anything by Goodkind, though I was tempted when Legend of the Seeker was first introduced. I didn't watch the show, for reasons I really can't remember (it must've been a scheduling conflict), but I did get a free download of the first thirty minutes of the pilot, which was entertaining enough. Of course, that was all a few years ago. At this point, I'm not sure if I'll read Goodkind or not. If I do, it's not going to be any time soon, due to the number of books in the TBR pile. :)

How many books do you have in your collection currently? Or don't you dare count? Me? I have over 1,000. I counted them up last year around June and found I was 30 books off that number, and by Christmas, I knew I had over 1,000 as I had bought some and had been given some.

Also, how do you deal with reading slumps? I'm tackling one right now.

That is a question with many answers. :) If you combine mine and my husband's libraries, including books we've owned but may not own any longer, the total is 1451. That, however, is missing part of my collection (probably under 100) at my grandmother's home, and some of my husband's graphic novel collection.

Of my books alone, minus that 100 at my grandmother's, I have around 638, and that does NOT include books I've read and passed on to new homes.

In terms of reading slumps, I usually have one at the start of every year. Last year, I combated it my pulling out books I hadn't yet read by my favorite authors and indulging myself. That helped a lot. This past year, it wasn't as bad, but I suspect it's because I'd created such a rigorous reading goals for the year (which you can read about here).

I don't do it personally, but I know of quite a few people who, when they hit slumps, re-read their favorite books.

Hope this helps!

Why are there not more photos of your cat? We need kitty love!

Awww... my kitty is loved!

I post a few pictures of Storm Shadow on Facebook, but as a rule, he's not photogenic. He'd prefer to walk toward the camera, the silly thing!

I don't know if you'll be able to see it, as it's uploaded through Facebook, but here's one I posted on Saturday:

The caption is: "Storm Shadow still doesn't know what to make of the new washer & dryer. So he must stand guard, just in case."
