GIVEAWAY: Sandra McDonald's DIANA COMET AND OTHER IMPROBABLE STORIES

THIS GIVEAWAY IS NOW CLOSED! FOR THE WINNER, PLEASE CLICK HERE!!

I was contacted back in May about helping with a secret promotion, and the author and I talked back and forth about the best ways for me to help with with said promotion. The best way, for my buck, was to make a big splash on the author's release day by doing two things: 1) to show you this awesomely informative, funny video (which goes by way too fast) and 2) offer a giveaway.

The first, the video: Sandra McDonald, of The Outback Stars fame, has put together a video celebrating the role of women in the science fiction and fantasy fields for the past 75 years. It's very clever: I love the use of the periodic table of elements, so pay attention and pause as often as necessary. You'll even get book recs in this sucker!

If you're having trouble viewing the video, please use this link instead: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=FYMvGUUwq7E

Also! Want to see the Periodic Table up close and personal? Want to keep it for your very own? Click here: http://174.143.173.68/PTblackandwhite.pdf

Entertained? Amused? Educated? All three? Good! I have to say, I'm holding on to this sucker, because while I'm familiar with a lot of the names, I'm not familiar with all, and you know my big pet project is celebrating women writers (well, women writing SF, but I won't discriminate the women who write fantasy and horror), so it'll be fun to refer back to and look for recommendations. :)

Now, I promised a giveaway, didn't I? Are you tired of me telling you how awesome it is? Well, let me tell you: I just finished reading this book over the weekend, and the review is forthcoming later this week. But I'll say this: it'll be a crying SHAME if this book isn't nominated for a Tiptree. CRYING SHAME. It's got everything that represents that award: a focus of gender, of sexuality, of race and discrimination. But more important, it's good writing, it's entertaining. It'll make you laugh and it'll make you think. Interested yet?

A writer of whimsy and passion, Sandra McDonald has collected her most evocative short fiction to offer readers in Diana Comet and Other Improbable Stories. A beautiful adventuress from the ancient city of New Dalli sets off to reclaim her missing lover. What secrets does she hide beneath her silk skirts? A gay cowboy flees the Great War in search of true love and the elusive undead poet Whit Waltman, but at what cost? A talking statue sends an abused boy spinning through a great metropolis, dodging pirates and search for a home. On these quests, you will meet macho firefighters, tiny fairies, collapsible musicians, lady devils and vengeful sea witches. These are stories to stir the heart and imagination.

McDonald's stories have appeared in many national, small press and online magazines and anthologies including Asimov's, Strange Horizons, Realms of Fantasy and Best New Paranormal Romance. She is the author of a series of novels--The Outback Stars, The Stars Down Under, and The Stars Blue Yonder--about an Australian military lieutenant, her handsome sergeant, and their adventures in deep space.
