Feb 02, 2010 19:54

Whereas March's theme was difficult to finally figure out, April's came to me right away. Although, I'm not exactly sure what to call it. :)

I have a question: how come you do the challenges so early? February has just started and you've already giving out the books for April. Why not just wait until the end of each month before starting the next challenge?

I have the book for March's challenge, because I didn't have any interest in the book that was chosen for this month. But we're not even going to discuss the book until the end of March which is literally weeks away! I don't really understand your reasoning for putting up challenges so far in advance.

Some people need more time to read, and some people need to be able to fit the books into their schedule, which is packed with other books they need to get to. By putting books out in advance, fast readers can wait until the month in question (in your case, you can read in March if you want), and slower readers can get as early start as they want. Also if anyone has trouble finding the challenge book, they have more time to look. Waiting until March to announce the challenge book would cut into peoples' reading time if they had trouble getting the book (say, from the library, etc).

Sorry you're not reading the Butler. If you're not interested in that title, you should check out some of her other books. She's everything you say you're looking for: a writer of books that focus on black and GLBT characters.

I've read LILITH'S BROOD, which I highly recommend, and the first two volumes of A SEED TO HARVEST, which are also awesome.

I am looking forward to KINDRED, just because I know what kind of punch Butler packs into her work.

I love this theme! You're a woman after my own heart. Women authors ftw.

I picked Palimpset because it's the one I've been most curious about. :)

I've got three of these on my shelf (the first three) and have been meaning to read them. The Valente is the one I want to read the most.

That's always my hope, that all of the selections will interest people and they end up picking up more than one book. :)

I read Amazon.com recapitulated on Macmillan, but now HarperCollins/Robert Murdoch is looking into negotiating with Kindle's e-books prices.

The problem is that, as of yesterday, Tor and Orb titles (which belong to Macmillan) were STILL not up for brand new purchase.

I've noticed that, too, with the paper versions, but only a few days ago. :-( Sucks Amazon's dragging their feet.
