Book Bag: January 2010

Jan 31, 2010 10:49

I know I requested feedback earlier this month about the frequency of book bag polls, and most of you stated that rather than a monthly column, you just wanted me to post the book bags as I "filled" them, and filling, for me, is four books or more. But due to the fact that I'm cutting down on the number of books I'm buying this year (at least until the TBR pile gets under control), "filling" my book bag might very well take a month or more, so I'm going to settle for a monthly column for now.

I will also point out that for any 2010 titles, I'm not sure how quickly I'll get around to them. I may put them off until my TBR lists from 2008 and 2009 are completed (don't fret, 2008 is rather short since I didn't start it until August), and then I may rotate them with the pre-August 2008 book list. :) I'm not saying this method is written in stone or anything, but as of now, that's how I'm handling the newbies. :)

French, Tana: The Likeness (Hastings): I really, really fell in love with the writing, the style, and the character's in French's debut, In the Woods, and since I received a Hastings gift card for Christmas, I sought out French's sophomore effort and nabbed it for my very own. I'm really, really looking forward to this one.

Scalzi, John: The God Engines (Subterranean Press): Subterranean Press is pretty expensive, but they also publish unique, limited-print-run titles, so there are certain authors whose work I will simply not say no too. John Scalzi is one of them, and The God Engines is apparently his first foray into fantasy, and I'm looking forward to seeing what he came up with. :) I actually pre-ordered this last year, but it arrived this month, so this is the month it counts in. :)

Kostova, Elizabeth: The Swan Thieves (Borders): Not my purchase, but rather my husband's. I include it here because I might one day read it, but that won't be until I get Kostova's The Historian under my belt, and I won't read THAT until I read Dracula, so it might be a while. :)
And that's it! I've had a few moments of temptation this month, like picking up Patricia Briggs's Bone Crossed at WalMart, but resisted because in that case, I've already read the book, and the other point in not buying as many books is to save money. Oh, I'll pick it up ONE day, but it's not an urgent purchase. We'll see what February brings! :)
