I'd say it depends on the demand for the book, which I'm guessing is, unfortunately, not high. It's a shame, but at least it is available via eBook, and there's always used venues and paperback swaps. :)
Have you read Kazuo Ishiguro? Your description of the narration in this book reminded me of the narrative in Ishiguro's novels, which also shifts between the present and past narrative. That kind of really makes the reader to pay attention, which is a good thing in my opinion.
I have: NEVER LET ME GO and NOCTURNES. I liked the former, didn't care much for the latter (which I'm getting ready to write a review of now, actually...)
