Lists, Lists, and More Lists!

So I'm pretty detail-oriented when I'm interested in said details. In an effort to actually keep track of the books I read, in 2005 I made a list that's turned into the annual book list you see here. But that wasn't enough. See, I love using Excel (despite that fact that evil Microsoft makes it), and I created a "Book ( Read more... )

I have the Books application on Facebook where I keep track of future releases under 'To Read'. The app uses Amazon (.uk,.com,.ca) and sometimes they aren't as up to speed as I would like...

Dorkstick. ;) I keep a list of upcoming releases I'm excited about, and if I give the husband the info on release day, he'll bring a copy home for me (as long as it's mass market paperback). He figures it's safer to bring it home than to let me loose in the bookstore.

Now that's a SMART idea! If my hubby worked close to a bookstore, I'd do that!

No, it's not just you. I keep lists too :) I'm trying to go simplistic this year and just do books read/to-be-read lists, but in the past I've had:
1. books read list
2. books to-be-read list
3. book release dates
4. author watch list
5. tv shows to-be-seen list/tv premiere dates
6. movies to-be-seen list/movie release dates
7. dvds to-be-bought list

I use GoodReads (and a notebook) to keep track of the books I read. Sadly, I use my Amazon wishlist as a way to keep track of sequels and new releases. It doesn't work very well, considering the amount of things on that list. Upcoming titles get lost in the pages of other "Ooo I want!" titles and misc. items. I tried keeping a list on my phone, but I'd forget it was there. I'm still trying to figure out when all the books I'm looking forward to in 2010 come out exactly!

I've got The Adoration of Jenna Fox on hold at the library so I'll finally be able to participate in at the end of the month's discussion. :)

How are you liking The Shadow of the Wind? I remember enjoying it, although it's been a few years.

My Amazon list is divided into a public wishlist, then a BUNCH of private wishlists categorized by genre. This lets me keep track of EVERYTHING, but not the when, you know?

So glad you'll be able to participate in the book club! I think you'll be pleased with this selection. :)

So far, so good on SHADOW OF THE WIND. It's got some drawbacks, and I've heard SO many good things that I keep waiting for that EPIC THING TO HAPPEN that just transforms the book, but so far, so good.

My favorite thing about Shadow of the Wind was that cemetery of lost books. Don't you want to find that place and just lose yourself in it? :)

after the second time I had to cancel an order on half.com, realizing nearly too late that I already *had* the book I ordered, I knew I needed to keep better track!

I use google docs spreadsheet - it has some flaws, but I like that I can access it from anywhere that has online capabilities, and I can export the data to a file on my machine every so often to keep it backed up.

On my spreadsheet, I'm tracking the books I own, where they are (ie in boxes, in the closet, on the tiny, tiny bookshelf) and I'm also starting to keep track of when I add it to the sheet (when I got the book).

I'm using lj to track the books I read over the course of the year.

I like the idea of tracking upcoming releases - I'm not organized enough to do that - although I'll browse my amazon recommended list every so often and add things to my wish list - I don't use it that often to plan purchases.

I use LibraryThing to keep track of everything I already own. I don't have a reliable shelving system, so LibraryThing is a godsend.
