Yeah, I don't even remember where I first heard of this series but definitely not because of the covers. I've seen the Kate 4 cover which is more eye-catching if not necessarily faithful to previous cover versions of Kate (in mood if nothing else).
I like Kate's snark and yes, she really doesn't understand how to back off at times. That being said, Curran can be such an ass at times - I suspect, the whole Pack vs. Non-Pack issue comes into play subconsciously in several instances. Given Andrews' other series that recently came out (PR) and some of her snippets online, she and her readers like an arrogant, overbearing alpha man type. I myself am inclined to agree with one of the commentators that while I can see them getting it on, I can't really see a real relationship coming out of it if nothing else because Curran doesn't really seem to respect Kate.
Still, I'm pretty glad. I like my UF, not a fan of PR so blood, guts, and gore flying around was perfectly fine with me. I like book 3 the most actually in this series because tournament books are fun and Kate gets to show up.
Oh, there was a word limit that the Andrews had to obey in the first book so that's part of the reason why sometimes, the description seems a bit scarce. I definitely liked the idea of magic waves vs. tech waves. Interesting world building.
I'm very glad to know that I'm not alone in my opinion of Kate and Curran's relationship. Oh, have you caught any of her snippets of the non-published 'Alpha Menz'?
I also agree with the comment below about the Crest-suspicion-blame Kate bit wasn't an accident. Curran was being an ass, because we all know an Alpha is NOT allowed to indicate that he was wrong in any circumstance because that would show weakness. Which can't happen. Ever.
But I do like the world she created, the concepts of magic ebbing and flowing are interesting to read. The vampires work because I was getting a bit sick of the Euro-trash vampire so many others use.
I can buy Curran being an ass, but Kate didn't even remotely defend herself against the accusation, not even in her head, which is why it reads like a mistake to me rather than Curran being an ass and not wanting to look wrong in front of the Pack. The least she could've done was say, "Hey, the Pack thought it was Crest, not me!" But since she's not that subtle, she would've yelled, "My hunch? YOU were the one who blamed him!"
I have read a bit of her Alpha Menz snippet and decided I wasn't interested.
As for Crest, I suspect the very idea that Kate brought up Crest as a possible suspect (in her mind, tacitly agreeing) keeps Kate quiet. Sort of the whole "I shouldn't even have thought of him as the bad guy!" guilt. Kate has her issues with relationships, esp. romantic ones.
Where's the cover for the fourth book posted? I'd love to see it.
Definitely don't see a real relationship between the two. I can imagine at this point the sex would be fun, but a real relationship? No. They're like oil and water.
Word limit, eh? Is that in force for all of the titles?
