Book Bag

Hanover, M.L.N: Darker Angels (Borders): I love this cover. This is the cover that made me a little more excited about the first book, Unclean Spirits. I would like to read this one very soon, but I'm not sure when I'll get around to it thanks to my new reading schedule (see item #2). Funny story: the day we went to Borders, I checked the inventory online and saw that they didn't have it in stock. Oh well. My hubby had to go to the store anyway, so while he was browsing, I decided to check the shelves for giggles, and there it was! Silly internets. They lie!

Martin, George R.R.: Dying of the Light (Amazon): okay, so I'm totally breaking my own rule of "Do not buy a book by an author if you already own one by the same author you haven't read." Not only do I have the rest of the A Song of Ice and Fire to read, but I also have his Fevre Dream waiting too. But, this is such a pretty cover! And it's Martin writing SF! AND IT'S SUCH A PRETTY COVER!!! This one might get read rather soon, as I've been sorely lacking in my SF lately. :)

Zafon, Carols Ruis: The Shadow of the Wind (birthday present): so my birthday isn't until Tuesday the 27th, but this came in early from michaelmay. I first heard about this on Pat's Fantasy Hot List, and he gave it such a good review that I plunked it on my wish list. So if I don't like this book? I'm blaming Pat.

Stone, Kelly L.: Thinking Write (birthday present): I can hear some of you groaning now... if you were around in the spring/summer of 2008, you got to see my lovely series of reviews that discussed writer's block. One of those books was the excellent Time to Write by Kelly L. Stone, and when I saw she was releasing another title, I pounced. And stuck it on my wishlist. Another lovely gift from michaelmay, it comes with CD of guided meditations (which could be really cool or really giggle-inducing). It's going to be read soon. Because I need a kick in the writing pants.

Vogler, Christopher: The Writer's Journey: 3rd Edition (birthday present): the last lovely gift from michaelmay. I've had this sucker on my list forever, ever since I started Seton Hill's Writing Popular Fiction Program in 2006. I've heard good things, and I know I should've read it long before now, but hey, at least my waiting allowed time for the third edition to come out! This is another I'd like to read relatively soon, but it'll be after Thinking Write. Like I said, I need a kick in the writing pants.

Willingham, Bill: Peter & Max: A Fables Novel (Amazon): this is a Greg book, but it's one I recognize, because I've seen the cover in several places. He got it because he's interested in the graphic novel series Fables, and as you can see, this novel is a tie-in. How, neither one of us know, but if he likes it, I might give it a shot. Also, I do rather like the cover.

Schroeder, Karl: The Sunless Countries (birthday gift): this is actually a belated birthday gift from michaelmay to Greg. I love, love, LOVE the covers to this series, but I'm so sad that I didn't enjoy the first book, Sun of Suns, enough to keep reading. However, Greg enjoys this series very much, and they look very lovely on the bookshelf. One note about the cover though: in real life, that greenish/yellowish border on the top and bottom is actually purplish/bluish, which matches the art MUCH better.
That's it! Big poll coming up this weekend, in which YOU will decide the November Book Club selection. Are you ready? You better be!
