For October - how about A Night in the Lonesome October by Zelazny? It's hard to classify - I wouldn't quite call it horror but it has some horror elements, and is also very funny. Just a thought, would be very appropriate for the season!
I'm keen on the classics: Dracula and Frankenstein are always good, but it also might be a good opportunity to go older and look into Carmilla.
Or how about YA macabre? Neil Gaiman's Coraline and The Graveyard Book immediately spring to mind, and I'm sure we could round up a few other suggestions.
Also, I just got my copy of War for the Oaks in the mail yesterday! I'm so excited to start it, but first I'm even more excited to finish seanan_mcguire's Rosemary and Rue first!
Hee hee! I'm giving myself about five more books until I read WAR FOR THE OAKS myself, though if something happens and I'm closing in too close to the end of the month, I'll move it up. :)
Kim Newman's Anno Dracula might be fun for next month since it's based on Dracula, but includes a lot of other more or less well-known historical and fictional characters of the Victorian period.
On the other hand, classics like Dracula and Frankenstein are good, too. I also second the suggestion of Gaiman's YA titles (especially since I haven't read either yet).
