Glad you're enjoying it more. The dog does play an interesting role in the next book in a rather odd way. Space and the multitudes of people can be pretty weird.

On another note, I have to agree with the reaction of the mercs. Slotter Key Military Academy - and note, not even ground forces academy or special forces academy, NAVAL academy - teaches how to set up and execute a hit? That really must be some academy.

The first one I read was her soft SF book THE SPEED OF DARK, which was very, very good.

If you wanted to read this series though, start with TRADING IN DANGER.

Yay, someone else has read Vatta's War! count_fenring August 24 2009, 14:46:01 UTC
I read through those, too.

I agree that they get less emotionally flat over time, although I never really got completely engaged with Ky.

Of course, I read the books immediately after vaccuuming all the Vorkosigan books in a row, so perhaps I was a bit spoiled.

Hello!

I agree about how satisfying it is that Ky is such a competent protagonist. And at the same time, it's not as if she was unrealistically perfect. She has the military training, so she's likely to know how to fight in a war.

Nice review :)
