All of a sudden, this is kinda hard

So, I'm finally a little worried about med school. We just started this pulmonary physiology section and I'm really not getting it. I spent around 7 hours today trying to understand the mechanisms behind Alveolar partial pressures and arterial partial pressures...and metabolic vs. respiratory alkalosis/acidosis...it's really confusing. I'm a little ( Read more... )

well, i'm glad i know about some stuff about medicine or pulmonary science or something like that. yay!! i'm cooler. (does the hamster dance) okay now...stanford...wow...i'm jealous. how did you get into there? grrr...what was your mcat scores? some of the people i know couldn't even get into med school. you must be an uber genius or something.

stupidity is in the eyes of the blind man. wow...that sounds kind of cool since i just made it up. hehe. live by it. its my new motto. study groups are beneficial, i think, when you have studied the material pretty well beforehand. it allows you to ask questions and get other tidbits of information after the fact. yeah, hang out away from school. you don't need the constant reminder about work. and i hear that there's limited time for actually leisure activities even though they "say" that you have lots of time to do things.

okay yeah, i feel stupid about partial pressures now. (stops the hamster dance) well, i'm not a genius. well at least i understood what you were talking about. i think its wise that you have to learn that stuff...and people said you didn't need physics in med school. boyyyyyyy were they wrong. i'm not sure how often you'll be using equations in med school. i guess the drama shows don't show the "boring" part of medicine.

chronic non-worrier, you are among the rare. can i use you from time to time. a kind of brain meld...do they do that yet? hehe. probably not. yeah, wrinkles stink. don't get them. keep completely stoic! :) have a good one.

Oh yeah, you are way cooler in my book for knowing pumonary stuff....hehehe. I keep visualizing you doing the hamster dance...makes me laugh...then I visualize you naked doing the hamseter dance;-) Yeah, I go to Stanford...don't know how I got in here...I'm definitely one of the dumber ones...lol. I actually didn't do that great on my MCAT...just average. I had research experience in college and pretty decent grades and I had a lot of shit happen to me when I was a kid. That stuff helped me. Plus, I have really original ideas for research. And, the fact that I'm half black and gay didn't hurt either...hehe. Uber genious I am not though.

I like your quote about stupidity. I think you should publish it....it's very cool and extremely meaningful. I'm glad it's your new motto! I guess groups are beneficial when you know the material. I usually get jealous though, like I said, so I'm not sure it would work for me. But, I do need to work on working in groups because as a doc I'll be doing that all the time. Well, there's been a lot less time to do stuff this quarter. It sucks. But I still manage to hang out with my best friend from college about twice a week which is cool. That keeps me sane!

Don't feel stupid about the partial pressures thing....I didn't know it until a couple weeks ago so, unless you're Einstein (which maybe you are Dartmouth boy:-)) then you wouldn't know it either. And don't stop doing that hamster dance, I like it:-) Yeah, people are definitely wrong about not needing to know physics in med school....I would never have thought you would need to know it but you do! They don't do a good job teaching the relevent stuff from physics to you as an undergrad though....they teach it all, instead of emphasizing the stuff that is really important. You're right about ER and the like not showing the boring part of medicine....but, you don't really do the boring stuff on paper or anything, it's all done in your head at light speed...which is kinda ridic, I don't know how I'll ever do that! And, we do have to know some equations for this pulmonary stuff...I hate it!

You can definitely use me as a mold if you want. I don't know if I told you, but I was a big nerd in high school who didn't have friends, never went and did social things and pretty much hated myself. Then, I became depressed and turned my life around. So now I "stop and smell the roses" constantly because you know what, it's life that is really important....your friends, seeing things....work will always be there to be done, friends and social things may not always be. That's a little piece of a my thesis on that...lol. I will definitely keep stoic to keep the wrinkles off! Yay for being young forever!:-)

either i'm really tired or i don't have much fun in writing posts anymore. oh well. i do enjoy reading yours and will write back. i didn't know you were half black. maybe i couldn't tell from the picture you have on your live journal. i think its because you did well on your mcats, don't sell yourself short. :)

yes my naked hamster dance is legendary. i'll send you a clip of it sometime. wait! kd wouldn't like that. oh well. hehe. yeah, my new motto rocks the house baby!! hehe. i'm going to get it copyrighted.

i don't feel stupid about partial pressure. i know as much as i'm supposed to know right now. i'm not a genius stanford boy. hehe. yeah lightning speed calculations in your head. i think it becomes routine though and you get to memorize it...standard memory recollection. yeah, down with physics grrr. hehe

i'll use you as a mold. hehe. that'll be cool. i'm glad that youv'e changed your life around and you seem pretty happy. keep living it up and study hard. i'll talk to you soon. have a good one.
