You guys will all be happy to know that I lost 5 pounds last week and am finally beginning to look the way I want to look! Yay! My stomach is actually getting flat (not flat enough but it's not pertruding out anymore which is stellar. My arms are beginning to look more toned too. I'm pretty sure this has everything to do with my new fitness routine. The routine is as follows. I'm working out 5-6 times per week, about 2 hours each day. I do 30 minutes of the elliptical machine (aerobic exercise) and then row for 5 minutes (usually about 1100 meters), then I do weights for whatever body part I'm focusing on for that day, and then I do Abdominal exercises (about 90 central crunches, 35 oblique-focused crunches/side, then 30 twists with a 5 kg medicine ball, and then 35 lower abdominal leg lifts). It's pretty draining and I hurt a little the next day and more the following day but it's giving me results. Along with this, I'm trying to eat healthier. I met with a nurtitionist today and she gave me some good input. Even though I thought I wasn't eating that many "bad" carbs, she said I was still eating a lot. Did you guys know that even when you order a sub on wheat bread, that bread is really not whole wheat and pretty much is as refined as white bread? I didn't know that at all. So even when I'm eating a sandwhich on that kind of bread, it's still not that great for me. She said what I knew all along: I can get better nutrition if I cook my own meals. Now, I told her that this was definitely an ideal solution but what can I do that isn't as radical and still lose the weight. She said that by cutting off a quarter to a third of the meals that I'm served at restaurants, I can cut around 800 calories and thus lose weight. That was great advice. Also, she said that I should eat breakfast because it's been shown that people who eat breakfast have a 10-15% higher metabolism than people who do not eat breakfast, independent of other factors. She said that a breakfast cereal with >5gm of fiber is a good cereal to eat. Other good foods would be cottage cheese, yogurt, whole wheat toast with some fruit...I was happy with this because I love breakfast and I love those foods. Also, I can eat eggs. My weight today is 205 which gives me a fine BMI with my height of 6'3". According to the nutritionist, I probably won't be able to get lower than 195 or 196 at my height which means I won't ever be one of those thin gay boys, but I am finally starting to believe that I'm not fat and look pretty good. That's a great feeling. It really flows over into other areas of your life as well. Everything seems better. So, I think I may be in pretty good shape for SF Pride next weekend. That'll be great...I'll hopefully be able to have more confidence to talk to boys then. Yay:-)
