Lawl, third week and I'm already late. THREE DOUBLE SHIFTS IN A ROW; REALLY, LIFE?
Anyway!
So. Characterization. There's so, so, so VERY much that surrounds that topic that I can't even put a dent in it here, so, I'm going to pick a slightly narrower sub-topic.
(
Keep it interesting. )
"And he comes to her city during a film shoot," Casey continued happily, ignoring my dumbfounded look. "See, he has to go to the hospital so he can get an emergency prescription, and--"
"No, stop, that's enough." I waved my hand, jotting down notes. My desk was swamped with applications, the short stack in the "YES" folder carefully noted and paper-clipped, and the small mountain in the "NO" bin filled with haphazard papers that were sometimes no longer in one piece. Casey's application was currently sitting between the two.
She was looking at me hopefully, green eyes shining with restraint as she somehow held back further explanations. Dear God, how long had this girl been thinking about her perfect romance? And who had knocked her on the head so many times as a child?
Clearing my throat, I hesitated to pop her rose-colored bubble, and proceeded carefully. "You know, really, all we need are a few details. Height, hair and eye color, profession, an easy setting, maybe a choice of meeting place..."
"But that's what I--"
"--Not a novel," I continued smoothly. "Unfortunately our constructed Fantasy-Get-Away packages are not yet that advanced. But we here at Cupid Industries give every applicant a thorough review, and we'll be sure to give you a call."
"Oh," the girl murmured, her enthusiasm shrinking a bit. "But-- what if I tell you about--"
"We'll give you a call," I interrupted smoothly, fitting on my best diplomatic smile. "Thank you for your submission, and I hope you'll think of us for any future design opportunities."
I shook her hand, gently showing her out. Then I ripped the submission in half and firmly set it in the ever-rising NO pile.
Why was it so hard to find a decent Fantasy-Designer nowadays?
