Endless squeeing time

Yuletide is, as ever, amazing. :D This year I got three lovely gift fics:

First, two lovely fics based on Vienna Teng's songs that do an amazing job of evoking the sad and yet hopeful atmosphere that characterizes so many of her songs, with a cast of wonderful strong female characters.

In Unending Storms
"Shine with all the untold / Hold the light given unto you / Find the love to unfold / In this broken world we choose." Four visits to an island.
Vienna Teng music, T, femslash, OCs, 1402 words
Warnings: Graphic depictions of violence
In Unending Storms is based on Shine, which OMG possibly favorite song ever, and tells the story of the relationship between two women who are superheros but so very human, through four moments in a place that becomes a retreat for them. Neat original worldbuilding, gorgeous prose, and absolutely heartbreaking.

Steady on the Wheel
"And you're thinking about clouds the color of fire / And the scent of an orange peel / The way Mt. Shasta explodes into windshield view / And your hands steady on the wheel."
Vienna Teng music, M, gen, OCs, 1252 words
Warnings: Teen pregnancy, abortion clinics, Christianity and waitressing
Steady On The Wheel fills out the narrative of the teenage mother whose story is so vividly hinted at in Shasta (Carrie's Song) in the form of the diary of a narrator with a distinctive and relatable voice.

And then someone wrote me a Dragonriders of Pern/Vienna Teng fusion which OMG alk;jakls I don't even. Seriously, there are no words for how epicly amazing this is.

Clouds the Color of Fire
Lessa discovers that she is pregnant with F'lessan. Fusion with the Vienna Teng song Shasta (Carrie's Song), with a few bits of Homecoming thrown in.
Dragonriders of Pern/Vienna Teng music crossover, T, het, F'lar/Lessa, 1588 words
Shasta (Carrie's Song) is not a song I would expect to fit with Pern (or at least not with F'lar and Lessa), but Clouds the Color of Fire makes it work perfectly. Alternately hilarious and poignant, it's a wonderful glimpse of F'lar and Lessa in the interval between Dragonflight and Dragonquest. All the characters and their relationships are note-perfect, and I have to put in a special word for the dragons, because I love how Ramoth and Mnementh's presence is strongly felt throughout the story and Mnementh is snarky and Ramoth is imperious and it's absolutely perfect.
