I am an idiot for not realizing this sooner. I have a six-hour layover on my way back to Alaska next weekend, and I've been thinking "well, it's good writing time (though I won't be able to have access to the canon for my Yuletide assignment, which halfway defeats the purpose), but blargh". Only now it occurs to me that that's a layover that's actually long enough to be feasible - and worth it - to leave the airport. And my six-hour layover is in Portland. Which has a very good light rail system that's accessible directly from the airport, and is one of the cities it would be most interesting to spend an afternoon wandering around in.

Brb, going to look up how to get to Powell's by light rail. :)
