Amazing fact #1: At the weekend I intentionally bought a bag of pistachio nuts.
Amazing fact #2: Tonight I de-shelled and crushed a large handful and mixed them into vanilla ice cream, and *it still tasted good!*. I've just sprinkled some more on top of cream cheese on crackers and ate it without realising...
I think I actually like the flavour, once I've told my brain to ignore the knee-jerk "but they're nuts!" reaction. I guess it's a bit like learning to ignore a gag reflex...
Those who know my instinctive dislike of nuts will be as amazed by these facts as I am. The rest of you, humour me, here :-)
What triggered the experimentation? An acquaintance persuaded me to try pistachio covered somethingorother (maybe Mozzarella or sweet potato) whilst we were in the US and I liked it - quite a nice savoury flavour - which was utterly a surprise to me.
Cashews, chestnuts, almonds, pistachios... whatever next? At this rate I'll have to say that I do indeed like nuts after all, except peanuts which are just evil incarnate and always will be.
