Today was shop manager's first day back. My job was also posted for open application within the store, and he found out just before it was posted.
He was pissy all effing day. Also? Two customers complained about the poor service they received from him. Yeah. I shouldn't be surprised at how he's handling it, but at the same time, I thought he'd be at least professional about it. Another framer handed in her resignation today, and I know another will hand hers in next week. Now that I'm going, everyone's jumping ship because if I'm not around to work the hours with him, then everyone else has to.
It's not actually vindictive or anything, honestly. The one who handed in her letter today is already assistant managing a health food store. She's been working both because, despite the shop manager, we all really like the actual job. It's just not worth the continued stress. The one quitting next week is moving to Saskatoon, three hours from the city. She recently graduated and I think her last classes are this week.
Of the remaining framers, one is a woman who just had her five-year. She'll be sticking around. The last was hired at the same time I was, but she's on the same page as the rest of us quitting. She's on a wait list for knee surgery and as soon as she knows her surgery date, she'll be quitting as well. Shop manager is pressuring her to take my job, but store manager is being cool about it. Cause he's not a dick.
We've all come to the conclusion that we wouldn't come back if he were still working at the store. The money isn't enough to be an incentive, and he is far too much to put up with. I expect the rest of my two weeks will be hellish where shop manager is concerned - I can see him turning this into something like she's leading a revolt.
I've decided to write a letter to the store manager highlighting my issues with shop manager. There's nothing that can be done about it now, and there are far too many reasons why I didn't bring it up while I was still around. Chief among them being that whenever someone from the shop expresses concern about the way shop manager's acting, they talk to him, but then shop manager takes it out on all of us.
I'll be glad to get away from this whole thing, even if I am leaving behind a store I've been working with for almost five years. I'll be sad to go, but also so relieved.
