It's not often that Caleb asks for time off, and he had thus far been spending his with Amelia, helping her to settle back into Alaska. But the time to be there for her had come and gone, and now it was time to give her some space. His first thought was of Mara, but her schedule was somewhat less accommodating than his.

So he left Metropolis behind, and returned to the only place he ever really thought of as home. Amelia can have her fancy mansions and sprawling estates, all he really wants is this old beach house. Well, old might be something of a stretch. True, it was his family's summer home from his early teenage years onward, and someone's regular home before that, but since buying it from his father, it's seen it's share of alterations.

One can see what he thinks of his homes from how he adorns them. In metropolis there are creature comforts. Beds, televisions, leather couches, and all the various knick knacks one acquires over time, but nothing sentimental. Spare rooms are work spaces. A personal library, an office, and a stockpile of useful things.

By contrast, few people know what the inside of his beach house looks like, as few people are invited there. It's his quiet getaway, a modest (yet luxurious) slice of calm he can call his own. This is where he parks Alice. This is where he keeps things that matter to him. And if you've ever seen the inside of it, it means he thinks highly of you.

He sits on the rocking chair on the patio on the second story, watching the sun set over the ocean, and succumbing to a turkey coma.
