Farewell, Ashes 2015. You were... odd. Comical at times. Uneven, perhaps. Was there some unwritten rule that only one team was allowed to turn up and actually play well in any given match? Did the teams take turns poisoning each other so only one side could play properly?

I'm not upset over the result but I'm not too pleased with the impending state of the Australian team. I think they're going to be too unbalanced, I don't think the new leaders are ready to fill Clarke's shoes, and I don't think the selectors are doing the team any favours in. And I will never forgive them for not selecting Haddin at Edgbaston. Never. I don't care how poor his form had been; it sent the entirely wrong message to the team. A player shouldn't have to fear for their place in the team when they opt out of a match under terrible circumstances. What is the point of a family first policy when the powers that be are all too willing to move on to a new, younger model?

And, I don't know, I just don't want to watch a team that doesn't have Clarke in the middle order, Haddin behind the stumps, and Harris opening the bowling. I'll even miss Rogers opening, even though he wasn't around as long as the others, because I think the team needed his playing style and some maturity at the top of the order.

(Watson, on the other hand... Well, he's had enough chances. True story: I can't think of a single Australian player whose name begins with W whom I like as a person. Warne, Waugh I, Waugh II, Watson, Warner, Wade etc. Great players (some of them) but not my cup of tea)

These players, especially Clarke and Haddin, have been the only remaining link to the golden era of Australian cricket and they were my team, you know? My team that I followed through night and day, sunshine and rain, to all ends of the earth and I just don't feel the same way about the current crop. I'll still follow them, of course, and in time they'll probably grow on me but at the moment I simple don't particularly care about them.

Thanks, Pup and Hadds and Ryno and Bucky (and, ok, Watto). You were my team and I'll miss you.
