...it's the fact that people pay far more attention to the politicians' personal lives (family, faith, race, ect.) then they do their political careers. I mean seriously, who the heck cares that Palin's daughter is pregnant? I care more about the fact that she's pretty supportive of people carrying firearms around, and that just frightens me. Who cares if Mc Cain is a devote Christian man? I care more about his views on the current energy crisis our country faces. Who the heck gives a crap if Obama's half African American? I'm more interested in seeing how he holds up in a debate against a more experienced politician.
The way I see it, the future president's private life means nothing to me so long as he can actually run a country. I mean, look at Clinton. Yeah, he cheated on his wife and he's a sleez, but at least we were doing pretty well economically. And news flash, MANY famous politicians around the world at various points in history have done things that are considered immoral, but still managed to hold their county together. Churchill was addicted to opium. FDR cheated on his wife as did JFK. Just because a person stays with his wife in a good relationship and seems like a relatable sort of fellow does not mean he's qualified for the role of commander in chief. Yes, I'm talking about Bush here, the guy who f***ed up our foreign relations and economy all in 8 years. Yeah, he's a great guy... he totally screwed us over.
But seriously, I don't understand why the tiny issues have people more tuned in. "OMG, Palin's teenaged daughter's a whore." "Obama isn't as good a Christian as Mc Cain." "Mc Cain's an old man and Obama looks better on TV." I mean, really?
But what am I saying? What else can I expect from a nation that's more concerned about American Idol and Dancing With the Stars than paying attention to issues that really matter.
