Save it for Joffrey, he likes a good grovel
All caught up on Game of Thrones, spoilers for first four episodes under the cut, and capslock and flail and all that sort of stuff:
- How much do I hate telly!Jon? It's a lot; it's quite an awful lot. IT'S ONLY GETTING WORSE. The problem with telly!Jon is his CONSTANT EMO FACE. Which he never had when he was in the book cause, not wishing to inflict unneccessary annoyingness on myself, I don't ever imagine any characters with CONSTANT EMO FACE. Oh, I don't want him to get the throne at all anymore. Give it to Sam instead. AND I DON'T EVEN LIKE SAM THAT MUCH.
- That not liking Sam is thing is probably blasphemy, isn't it? Practically everyone loves him, yeah? He's fiiiiiiine, just not very interesting. And def not helped by almost all his scenes containing LORD EMO FACE.
- I love all the Lannisters, they are amazing. There are many shiny things about Tyrion, but mostly I don't want him to ever split up from Bronn. And Cersei, oh, she is on the telly as I thought she was in the book before she got a POV and I LOVE HER. That scene with Tyrion in the first ep just made me so sad that there were Other Plotlines that were going to distract from Lannister Family Politics and then her demonstration of power to Littlefinger was kind of delicious for subtlety is ALL VERY WELL but it's not terribly useful if you've just been stabbed in the face, is it?
- Jaime is still very pretty, even when messy and in the company of bloody CGI wolves. I hate CGI a lot. I may have mentioned this on occasion.
- Stannis's court! That was a bit nifty. I'm bored by them all in the book. Apart from maybe Melisandre's chapter in ADWD, but here the dude playing Stannis had some keen comic timing and Liam Cunningham is playing Davos Seaworth and I've seen him in loads of stuff and think he's great so suddenly I really like Davos Seaworth. And Melisandre does have a smashing costume. I DON'T KNOW WHAT TO SAY ABOUT THE SHADOW BABY. Um. Yeah.
- The Greyjoy Court ain't too shabby either though Asha who is not called Asha, boo, was better in my head and/or the books. Perhaps she will grow on me. I did like how they handled Theon's divided loyalties, and how he knows how to be a better person but has some slight issues following through. (I seem to remember when reading the books that I only grew to hate the Iron Isles when all Lord Greyjoy's brothers turned up, Damphair especially, I think it was, OH THE TEDIUM.)
- Catelyn was a bit fantastic in that scene with Littlefinger at Renly's camp, the whole gamut of emotions she ran through. Am V Disappointed that there probs won't ever be a scene with her and Cersei again. I wish they'd got to be A Team at some point, it would've been amazing.
- The kid who plays Joffrey is possibly Even Better than last year. He's my favourite of the child actors; his ability to portray vileness is epic.
- I LOVE SANSA.
- Natalie Dormer, at last! And suddenly Marjaery Tyrell is my favourite. I can't think of any of the non-book scenes (stuff in brothels notwithstanding) they've added that I don't like and her matter-of-factness and practicality regarding her husband and brother is no exception. Am less fond of Loras Tyrell for he is very scowl-y. Renly is great though.
- OH HELLO CHARLES DANCE. More of him pls. For important plot reasons, obviously.
- People I want to be Queen: Marjaery, Sansa, Daenerys. People I want to be King: Tyrion, Renly, Charles Dance. May need more kingdoms.
