Doctor Who: Day of the Moon

Guess what I thought. Go on.

• Most important things first - the climax. THAT WAS MAGNIFICENT. I loved it most for the BEAUTIFUL Doctor/River stuff, but the plot conclusion was pretty darn nifty too.
  
  
• OMG THE DOCTOR/RIVER STUFF. It is POSSIBLE I spent a large amount of this episode thinking This Could Do With More Doctor/River and then there was SHOOTING and SPINNING and HONEY and SWEETIE and A KISS.
  
  
• I'm trying to ignore the possibly-maybe retcon of Doctor and River in strict reverse chronological order. Firstly, cause I don't see how this two-parter doesn't come after Pandorica/Big Bang in River's personal timeline. Secondly, because River says the Doctor came to see her just before she went to the Library and he clearly knew her and what was about to happen. Thirdly, because when River compares diaries and they overlap in tIA, she's not shocked that they've overlapped. And fourthly, because it's a stupid idea. (Or I don't like it, which is Much The Same Thing, probably.)
  
  
• THEY KISSED. And thanks to the ridic and wrong retcon thing River thinks this is the last time they'll kiss because it's the first time for him. LUCKY HE SEES HER AT THE SINGING TOWERS THEN.
  
  
• Oh, look, and she's not the Doctor's mother and they are romantically involved, what a shock, never saw that coming, what with it not being clearly spelled out from the start or anything.
  
  
• One of the things I love about Mofftiem is that the Little Things that prevented me from Constantly Loving RTD Who almost all get changed or swished away. For instance, "What's the point in having two hearts if you can't be forgiving now and then?" makes me think "yay, that sounds like Doctor Who." While "I used to have so much mercy" makes me think "oh, fuck of, you emo douchebag."
  
  
• Ditto with the fakeout of Amy talking about her life was so boring until Rory turned up and Rory thinking she was talking about the Doctor. People enjoying their lives and thinking them worthwhile before the Doctor arrives! UNTHINKABLES.
  
  
• I am tots bitter we don't get to keep River, or Canton.
  
  
• Canton is indeed gay! Hurrah!
  
  
• "Welcome to America." I loled stfu.
  
  
• These episodes have been ridic pretty, this has been pleasing. Utah looks just beautiful.
  
  
• So what the heck were the scary markings? It didn't say, did it?
  
  
• I love we got A Satisfying Conclusion to the main plot but still Many Intriguing Questions. Mostly WHO IS THE LITTLE GIRL? OMG, A TIME LORD! ARE THERE MORE? CAN WE HAVE MORE? SHE'S A TIME LORD! SHE'S REGENERATING! WHO'S SHE REGENRATING INTO! *FLAIL*
  
  
• I liked Nixon turning up with his American theme tune of Americanness, yes. If only because it gave me lols in what was A Pretty Dark and Scary Ep.
  
  
• So how many aliens have been influencing humanity since The Dawn of Time now? The Jagaroth, the Fendahl, the Beast, the Silence...DID WE DO ANYTHING FOR OURSELVES, WHONIVERSE?
  
  
• Much love for Canton and Amy playing Mulder and Scully (I'd tots watch that show) and Amy trapped in that room in the orphanage was one of Who's scariest of all scenes and it is possible I was clutching a cushion but I def wasn't hiding behind anything. (Switching to Canton's perspective in the TARDIS was also pretty nifty.)
  
  
• I am a bit ridic happy at the Doctor finding the abandoned spaceship before he'd instigated the revolution that caused it to be abandoned. It is a wee thing, but I think a rather lovely bit of continuity.
  
  
• If that prison is really made of dwarf star then how the heck is it just sitting on the floor instead of crashing through it and, indeed, the rest of the planet?
  
  
• River jumped off a building in a pretty dress and trusted the Doctor to catch her. THAT WAS GREAT. Also, when she was being all skience-y, and when she was being all flirty, and when she was being all shoot-y.
  
  
• Very much like the addressing of how Rory remembers being a centurion, but not half so much as him discovering that he's the stupid face.
  
  
• In conclusion, that was pretty epic and I'm going to be finding it Increasingly Tricksy not to hunt down spoilers.
  
  
• Next week, PIRATES. Amy in a PIRATE HAT and a PIRATE COAT and SWORDFIGHTING PIRATES. I will be Tremendously Disappointed if she does not go "har-har-har, shiver me timbers" at some point.
