a star wars poll

There is a thing that has been bugging me for a couple of days, it is APPALLINGLY TRIVIAL, but never mind. Thus there is this poll which I shall Explain Later (there are no options for fence-sitters because neutrality is NOT FOR POLLS.):

Poll Star Wars Skientific Investigation

While I don't think any of the three are bad, I do have a least favorite, and that least favorite is Empire Strikes Back. Most people would not contest (or, at least, be less likely to contest) my liking Star Wars over Empire, but why do I like it less than Return of the Jedi ( ... )

I do hope that this is sarcastic, because these are my reasons for not liking Jedi as much as New Hope and Empire.

I can do sarcasm, but I'm not. I honestly prefer Jedi to Empire, for those reasons, and more. :)

Off-topic, but it says under your post that you edited your post. I didn't even know that was possible because I've never seen an edit button for a reply post. If you don't mind my asking, how did you do that?

IIRC, it's a paid account perk.

See, I get why people dislike RotJ the most (and they're most of the same reasons I love it), but I grew up disliking ESB because (I think) we never had time to watch RotJ after it and I disliked not being able to see the problems in ESB resolved. So I'm going with the underdog and voting for ESB. If I'm going to watch the films again for the millionth time, I'm going to watch the first one, because it's the first, or the last one, because Yay happy endings. So I practically never pull ESB off the shelf ( ... )

That's interesting to me, because I can NOT watch only part of something with no intention of watching the other portions that make up the story. This isn't just a Star Wars thing, I'd be the same with Matrix or Lord of the Rings or whatever, because it's meant to be a whole story. Now, I don't mind a cliffhanger, but I have to see the end of it the next day or whenever I get a chance or I won't watch any of it.

I'm right there with you on Lando. I wanted so much to like him, but then he turns around and stabs his best friend in the back and it makes it hard to get over that. I would say Return of the Jedi helped redeem him, but I remember the old Star Wars comics from Marvel where he and Luke kept trying to find Han, and by the time of Jedi, Lando was already a hero in my eyes. But seeing him get the on-screen redemption was the icing on the cake. :)

Also? I dislike betrayal. Way to go, Lando. Way to go.

I do, as an adult, find it a tiny bit sketch that the series' only black character is introduced, and spends an entire film, as a traitor. He does redeem himself in RotJ and become one of the heroes, so it's not the issue it might be, but it would seem to me to be a weakness of ESB, that ESB does not manage to present a standalone characterization that is not sketchy. (It's like that '70s film of Jesus Christ Superstar where the only black character is the guy cast as Judas. Sure, it's the lead role and a great part that sort of redeems Judas, but... really? You want the only black guy to be Judas? And ESB kind of does that, too. In fact, Lando in ESB pretty strongly parallels Judas, now that I look at it, right down to the dude he betrays becoming wall art as a lesson to future miscreants.)
