camlann, nice place for a holiday

Have just watched A Special Relationship where Micheal Sheen gets to play Tony Blair again and Helen McCrory is Cherie Blair and Denis Quaid is Bill Clinton if Clinton was pretty fugly in '96 which, no, he wasn't and that distracted me kind of a lot. Anyway, mostly what I learned was that Tony Blair was a bright-eyed young go-getter who became Prime Minister and fell in love with the President of the United States, built him a massive great pedestal, stuck him on top of it and polished him every day. And then the President decided to take a piss on the pedestal, several times, and made Tony cry.

But that was okay because then there was a new President called George and Tony started being a total tosspot and everyone lived happily ever after. Which is exactly what happened, probably.

Also, Merlin! That was pretty good. Generally I liked it and I was pretty impressed with how they managed to convey Epic Battle given they obviously had budget limitations. However are we actually meant to think Merlin is a bally git half the time? I'm undecided about whether the text is trying to go for giving everyone a bit of moral complexity or it actually thinks we should be completely condemning Morgana and Morgause and their CRAZY EVIL PLAN to overthrow a child-murdering despot. I mean, I love Uther, but he ain't a nice guy.

The ending seems to lean towards the latter but in the fucking awesome Morgana swordfighting scene it seemed to be going for more sympathy for Morgana's POV. (And, omg, that scene; Morgana was amazing, plus, shiny outfit.) So, yeah. Basically the argument for supporting Uther is Arthur Has A Destiny and the argument for Morgause is Uther's a paranoid crazy that murders men, women and children without bothering with those pesky trial things. I KNOW WHOSE SIDE I'D BE ON.

Pleased to see a nice Gwen/Arthur scene though, and the Merlin and Morgana stuff was pretty awesome. Not looking forward to next week because, bloody hell, a comedy Gaius episode? OH JOY.
