Here is an Exciting Meme about books what I got from teh flist:
01. Do you snack while you read? If so, favorite reading snack?
Coffee or tea cause otherwise there will be sugary/salty/greasy fingers onna book or else cutlery and how the dickens do you read and manage cutlery? I have not that skill.
02. Do you tend to mark your books as you read, or does the idea of writing in books horrify you?
Not my books what I read now, no. I've cheap copies of some stuff that I did (pencil) margin notes cause I was studying them at school. Chaucer suffered the worst there, what with his tendency to write in Middle English and the fact that this was a bit like A New Language we were expected to learn. Fun times.
My cheaper law books got some pencil-scribblings too. Especially if they were legal history and needed some translation work on the Latin or Ye Old Scots.
03. How do you keep your place while reading a book? Bookmark? Dog-ears? Laying the book flat open?
Bookmark, if one's handy. I think MUNCLE cigarette (?) cards are bookmarking most things at the mo, but I do have a tendency to lose Proper Bookmarks and will just tear up the nearest non-book paper thing in sight then. Ahem.
04. Fiction, Non-fiction, or both?
Mostly fiction. The non-fiction I read is mostly historical biographies of women, lots of Roman history, legal history, Greek philosophy and Napoleonic stuff.
05. Hardcopy or audiobooks?
Hardcopy.
06. Are you a person who tends to read to the end of chapters, or are you able to put a book down at any point?
I prefer the satisfaction of a chapter endpoint (Discworld used to drive me nuts with the lack thereof).
07. If you come across an unfamiliar word, do you stop to look it up right away? Write it down to look it up later? Just try to infer what it means from the rest of the sentence, and keep going?
I write it down then go look it up later.
08. What are you currently reading?
The Forgotten Legion by Ben Kane. A book that tempted me with its focus on the lolarious fuck-up what was Crassus' Parthian campaign but turns out to have blander, more repetitive prose than bloody House Corrino.
Also, Raffles. Raffles is great. (The Amateur Crackman by EW Hornung.)
09. What is the last book you bought?
Some manner of Sherlock Holmes pastiche...Sherlock Holmes in Orbit by Mike Resnick (editor), apparently. Um. Yes. Things are always better In Space, obv. I hope that 'in Orbit' is not meant metaphorically.
10. Are you the type of person that only reads one book at a time or can read more than one at a time?
My bedside table has a couple of dozen books piled up that I'm "currently reading." Why, yes, my attention span is Not That Great. The book I'm currently actually properly reading lives in my handbag though.
11. Do you like re-reading books?
If I did not hate them first time round, sure.

I am currently ignoring Dreamwidth until I can be bothered doing lots of clicking on stuff to sort out the reading thingie and make it look pretty and things, yes.
Would quite like the new Star Trek to hurry up and get to UK as the trailers are making it look Quite Exciting and possibly even A Bit Good.
It is May. This upsets me greatly.
