Notes on the Domestication of Birds and
This House Is Not For Sale are both v v good fics, and I love them muchly. They are also exceptions to the general thing I have Discovered About Self: Ten/Rose squicks me.
I didn't know! But I've been writing a somewhat haphazard one-shot AU of season 1 (or 27, whatever) and it's almost done and there's Rose/Nine and I kind of really enjoyed writing it and compared it to my Being Afraid of The Keyboard (much like when I try for pr0n) when I've tried Rose/Ten and then realised, zomg! Squicked! And, for reals, I'm so much more comfy with Rose/One than Rose/Ten. (There was, btw, a smashing Rose/One ficlet in
who_otp's drabble tag - it was all warm and fuzzy in a nice way, yes.)
Er, yeah, it's the Power Balance thing. Ten doesn't need Rose like Nine needed her, and Rose seems to need Ten way more than she needed Nine and that just makes squick for me, as I have found. And the Power Balance, uneven in all but the best of times, has just slid way, way over to the Doctor, and, really, that's more than a tad scary.
And, yes, I try to convince myself that it's Rose's trust in the Doctor that means she doesn't challenge him, but it's so difficult not to go for the Blinded By Love option, and just, no, if I think that, I'll just not be able to like her. (And whoever said Nine was in love was Rose, but she wasn't in love with him, reverse that for Ten makes much sense, yes.)
I do like the idea that the reason their so darn clique-y in an appalling way in T&C isn't because they're in their own little world, but because they both realise that things have Changed Quite A Lot and they're desperately trying to reassure each other that they're still Bestest Friends and Everything Will Be Okay. Then the Doctor realises that's a bloody daft plan, hence School Reunion and GitF'ace, yes.
But Rose/Nine I like a lot.
Also Pink Travel is not working as a theme for me journal, woe. At least for me. So I changed it to Poe. Poe is Win!
