Well, I have pulled this off for this year. I'm over the 50K words needed, however, I'm not finished with the story. So, even though I could submit my word count and win today, I am going to wait until tomorrow night and see how much more I can squeeze out in 2 evenings.
At first the story came quickly... every character had something that they wanted to share. Then it became harder to tell a story. I almost had to use a mental cattle prod to get things motivated again. Then, as the close of the month is coming... a huge wave of creative inspiration flooded me and I haven't been able to stop typing. I think that there is a lot of good stuff in this novel, however, I don't think that this novel belongs in the format that is presently is in. I think that I've stumbled on what things inspire me and what themes I need to incorporate and let flow from my mind.
Therefore, December (or Jan) will be edit month... to see if I can pull what I have together into something that will actually read like a novel, instead of a bunch of story stories linked together by a house.
Also, I think that I'm going to start NaNoWriMo 2007 in January. What I mean by this is I am going to start working on the Novel Bible. This is the research on the characters, the places that they will visit, the goal and plot of the novel... maybe even fleshing out some scenes, so that when November 1st 2007 comes around I will be ready to roll and be able to keep up the pace because I have a better idea of where I'm going with the story.
This is really important to me, because having a little one around really derailed me at times. And it would have been worse if I didn't have 2 weekends (one of them a 4 day weekend) to get caught up on my writing.
So... for all those still writing... keep going, things are looking up.
For those of you have quit... please reconsider. You have a good beginning... finish it even if it is too late for the NaNoPubMo. Look for another group... maybe NaNoWriYr would be better.
Blessings to all.
