On my way home from work last night, I had this simply wonderful opening scene for a story run through my head. Yes, I saw it like a movie... it starts out dark... murmings as people make their way along a dark stone tunnel that opens to a room that is filled with rat bodies, cobwebs, bugs and ... a coffin. Standing on a pedistal is a stone crypt. The tomb seems to be sealed and there is the whisper.
"did you bring the crowbar?"
"shit, this thing is heavy, we are never going to get it moved."
"shutup, do you want to wake the dead?"
"actually, yes."
"This will never do, we can't budge it."
-- sounds of stone grating against stone as the lid is pushed open --
"well, that's handy."
-- a flash of light as someone in the room lights a match and it illuminates the anxious faces of those present --
"will you put that thing out? I can't stand the smell of smoke!"
"nope"
-- another match is struck, this one to light a small torch --
"wakey, wakey, eggs and bacy"
- the light is pushed into the stone container to display and empty crypt --
"oh shit!"
"what the..."
"Looking for me?"
-- the light goes out and there is a scream, then a voices cries out in the darkness --
"is that you, Calanthe? You really should cut those nails."

It of course went on from here... with a fight, illumination and flight...
But... I have got to call my friend MEM... we have got to work together, as her character from our old writing group NUAPA (NightMares Unlimited APA) is involved with this story, so are some other older characters, like Jocelyn, Dustyn, and Arielaine (sp).
It could be a really good book... *hint, hint*
