IKE

Quite a storm.  Ike combined with a cold front to produce wind gusts as high as 85mph.  I have never seen such an extensive area of damage here in my life.  We were told at most 5-7 days for power, but more like 3-4.  We are camping out at work, having fun, and sapping the internet.  LOL.  Anyway, this whole experience really has me thinking.  First, these were only TROPICAL STORM force winds.  Can you imagine a powerful hurricane.  Secondly, I cannot wait to be off the grid and a little more self-sufficient.  I wish people in the stores would realize, the cashiers cannot order/haul in anymore batteries and ice than there is available.  No, the power companies are not screwing us (Well, they are!).  It is in their best interest to get you back to buying their power!  Just some food for thought.  People in other areas have it a lot worse, and I am happy to be spending extra time with my wife at work.  For those interestes, here is a list of recorded wind speeds from Sunday provided by the National Weather Service.
