Last night the band Dancer from SF played on my show. There were 4 band members and they drove in with all their instruments/gear in an older model Jeep Cherokee. Everything, including the band members, fit in there like a puzzle and I commented on that. It was cute. They had gotten lost in Davis because they turned on La Rue for some reason and I was on the phone trying to tell them how to get to the radio station.
I told them to be there an hour early for a sound check. They actually came an hour and 40 minutes early (yay), but they were fiddling with their instruments for a while (boo) so they didn't get started until I was already 30 minutes into my show.
I got 3 large pizzas from Symposium so no one would be hungry. I told them that in the 17 years I used to live in Davis, this is the best pizza I have found. Even the crust is delicious- it tastes like breadsticks. I shared the pizza with the band, Christine the engineer, Mike from Chocolate Covered Records, and our live audience (Stephanie who DJs before me, Emily F., her bf Brandyn, and their friends Megan and AJ). The band had a somewhat obnoxious on-air persona (I had to bleep them a couple times) but they were all nice folks.
The band and I nerded out about music. Turns out they know The Barreracudas, another one of my favorite bands. They talked about other bands they are in or had been in (Cuts, Apache, SicTeens). They invited me to a DJ night in the city that happens every Sunday night. I am just not sure when I would be in the city on a Sunday night, lol.
Anyway, they are going on an east coast tour and they will be in Philly and NYC soon. They will be playing at the Palisades in Brooklyn on October 23rd. They will also be playing live on WFMU, on Evan "Funk" Davies' show on October 28th (9 pm Eastern, aka 6 pm California time).
Listen here for the live show/interview they did last night with me on my program:
