1) Aww thank you! :D IchiUri rules my heart with their adorkableness.
2) Oh my God, wow. That sounds so absolutely terrifying, and I can only imagine how much more so it must have been for a seven-year-old. The waves seemed so much bigger when we were kids already and to add a huge wave on top? Gah. The ankle strap thing just *shudders*--I'm just so, so glad you're OK. I don't blame you for not wanting to get back into the ocean or really enjoying water activities much!
2.) Yeah, it was awful.....I hated the water. I had vowed for an entire year never to go near a beach and it worked. I was so pale. xP The same was to be said of the pools too. I never went where I couldn't reach with my feet. Only now have become more outgoing.
My parents thought I was being outrageous for having this phobia. I am adamant about when, where, and what conditions are like when I go into the water. Gah, just shows how I am a control freak. xP
I don't blame you at all for hating the water, and I think it's seriously admirable/amazing that you are working toward being a little more outgoing. I don't think it's outrageous for someone who almost drowned to be hyper aware of the condition of any situation where they were re-entering water! In fact, I would expect it. My mom had a similar moment as a small girl flying out of a water slide where someone was supposed to be waiting to catch her (since she couldn't really swim) and wasn't. She still really dislikes pools/ocean, etc, and doesn't really swim.
Itʻs tough to be understanding. Finally, everyone pretty much gave up on me. For my sophomore year in high school we had to pass a swim test, obviously this wouldnʻt be possible because I could not swim. I had to somehow convince my doctors, teachers, and administration that my phobia was real. I had to have 2 doctors sign off that my problem was real in order for me to be excused.
Oh my goodness! Thatʻs horrifying what happened to your mother. I never go to water parks or amusement parks, if I do needless to say I only take the kiddie rides. My rationale is that if this 3ft high child can do it, I can too!
2) What happened? Blacking out in the water is one of the most terrifying things I can think of. :o
