Heading towards Christmas

I was just in Orange County (LA) for two weeks and it was about 25C there. Came back to temps just above or below zero. Quite a shock. Spent the time sorting out mum's stuff again and seeing family. I realise how much I miss them when I see them. Then when I'm back here, it doesn't seem so bad. I've had awful thoughts (to me at least) about how it's so tragic that my mum had to die before I visited there more often and felt so close to everyone. This is what she wanted while she was alive - dammit why is life so retrospective?
I want to do Christmassy things and I will but I'm also lazy. Anyway today I'm heading off to a party. Tuesday there's a holiday dinner - recession style they called it - we are going to a corned beef house. But at least it's closer and more convenient than the lovely house parties we have had in other years. Then there's a gap till Sunday when I plan to go to St Ann's because the church is so gorgeous no matter what they put on there. Oh, I may go to Jin's on Friday. Need to sort that out. Tuesday my dad arrives from OC. He stays with Ruth so I won't see him until Chistmas day.
I've done no Christmas shopping so that's on my list for this week. I'm keeping it simple and thinking in terms of certificates for things and a few seasonal chatchkes for something to unwrap. I never buy for my dad - have always got charitable donations for him and my brother and Liz - but this year I need something for him to unwrap and don't have a clue. Wish I could afford a GPS but I don't think he really needs one, anyway.
