Another thought that just came to me. What makes fashion fashionable? I mean, they are essentially categorized the same. A sweater, a pair of jeans, socks, dresses, etc. Why are certain pieces of clothing so fashionable while some are not.
Is it price? Is a chanel whatever whatever more fashionable because of the price? So in this case, fashion is corresponding to monetary success. It is saying "Because I make a lot of money and can afford these shoes, I am more fashionable than YOU." So this could mean that you could charge $500 for some big bird looking dress and call it fashionable because of the price? On a tangent then, is it because of the brand? Does this brand automatically make it fashionable because it has a label. If so, then you are a label whore. You would only wear something because of the label no matter how hideous it looks. In both these cases, you aren't thinking for yourself. But rather, a company that charges a ridiculous amount of money for an article of clothing dictates your way of thought. Where is the freedom in that?
Is it fashionable because someone famous is wearing it? If Kanye West decides to wear eyewear that's more like an oversized polarizer, then would that be fashionable. (
look to the left.) What are these? Can you even see out of them? But mysteriously after Kanye wears them, all stores are carrying these ridiculous eyewear. And why is it that stars/idols can wear such obscene pieces of clothing and now it's called fashionable. But hey, if I were a store, I would carry all this shit too because it'll make me money. Why is it that stars are so godly? They are just humans who's job is to create media to entertain us. That is all. A janitor isn't high praised because what he/she does.
Is it the material it's made of? Is that cashmere whatever more fashionable because it's cashmere or because it actually looks better.
Is it because of who designed it? Is it more fashionable because some asian lady named Vera Wang made it? I've seen some of their runway shit whilst flipping through channels and I just stare and think..."what the fuck". Seriously. That chick needs to take that shit off and throw on a pair of jeans. Nobody gives a flying rat's ass that this won't make it to stores. "It's just beautiful"
Is it more fashionable because it is unattainable? I guess that ties into the whole money issue. Like that runway shit, it'll never make it to production but why is it on the effin runway. No one will ever wear it on the street because it won't be sold so what's the point of showing it off? To say how much talent you have? Okay, let's talk about the talent you don't because you don't market this product that everyone is ogling about. How about that?
Is it because the model you saw in the commercial made it look so good? Nine times out of ten, it won't look like that on you...They found a model to accent that clothes. We are of different heights and bodies that it will never work out.
And we can say, I'm so fashionable but really...if you didn't make the clothes from scratch yourself, no one of us fashionable. We bought things that were offered to us, things that we deemed fashionable however, some company told us it was. If it wasn't, why would the company sell it? If it was so unfashionable, then it wouldn't make money thus would not sell. That's a complete NO for any capitalist organization. So as I pick up a Banana Republic sweater, I'll think to myself, I can only have my own style, not my own fashion.
