SO YOU WANT TO WRITE A VISUAL ROCK FAN-FIC...

I, as a mere amateur with no more than XX number of fan-fictions under my belt, have no business teaching my own method of going about this; so instead, I shall teach a method that works. Tried and true, seen in all corners of LJ, here are some pointers on writing a VISUAL ROCK (or 'Visual Kei' if you prefer, even J-rawk, though this is degenerate) FAN FICTION that will SUCCEED.
* * *
1. Spelling, punctuation:
This may seem superficial; but in the eyes of some, it can make all the difference! Make sure to dot your i's and cross your t's, so to speak, or get a gentlemanly 'beta' to do it for you!

2. Plot, characters:
You don't have to think hard about this one. Any plot will do; it doesn't have to have anything to do with music, nor does it have to be set in great Nippon. Just use whatever band members from whatever band(s) you want in whatever plot you want. Wise men say the plot is key, and the characters are just puppets doing a dance.
Alternatively, fuck plot and write whatever comes to mind! Just make sure to use members of Visual/J-rawk bands, else it's not a fan-fiction.

3. Sylistic integrity:
People hate when you repeat yourself, whether it be he's his's or even NAMES. Rather than saying, for example, "Reita's fingers squirmed under Ruki's bum and found his sensitive spot" -- rather than that, say more varied and skillful things like, "Reita's fingers squirmed under the blond's bum and found his sensitive spot"; "Reita's fingers squirmed under the taller/shorter man's bum and found his sensitive spot", etcetera. It's important to have high word variation, because if you don't... well, it's just bad!

4. Get some perspective:
Though third-person story-telling works if you take to heart the advice mentioned above, it's otherwise way more awesome to write your fan-fictions in the first-person!

5. The power of friendship:
It's also of utmost importance to have a circle of friends who will leave positive comments on your work and gang up on any nay-sayers.

That concludes this lesson in how to write a REALLY GOOD Visual Kei/J-Rawk fan-fiction on LJ.
