With bonus Avatar finale response. Whee!
Pretty much the only thing I didn't like about the finale was Aang not killing Ozai and the whole "LOL being poked by a rock gave me my Avatar state back!" thing. I just think that, while removing his bending was kind of cool (not to mention darker and crueler than I thought Aang was capable of) I don't think it completely nullified Ozai's threat. The guy probably still has a lot of loyal followers hanging around after all, not to mention that he's still a crafty, manipulative bastard. It just seems like kind of a cop-out. I can live with that though, because at least Momo and Appa made it through as well. :D
My only ships are Jun/Iroh (lawl bondage), Azula/Ty Lee and now older!Toph/Tony Stark, so Zuko/Mai and Katara/Aang didn't really affect me either way. Sokka/Suki was cute though, and someone needs to write Sokka/Suki/Yue like, yesterday.
Azula's breakdown at the end brought back some painful memories for me, but it was really well done and realistic. I hope they got her some help, although I think it's silly to think they wouldn't. Despite all of the horrible things she's done, I don't believe any member of Team Avatar would let her stay in so much pain if they knew they could help her. Maybe when Zuko finds Ursa they can all go to family therapy sessions together with Toph and her parents. Then she and Ty Lee can go to couples counseling.
At any rate, the most important lesson to take away from the finale is that Iron Toph and Iroh's Old Man Squad > everything and everyone else in the history of ever, so don't mess, bitches.
