I have a couple of occasions to make cut-out cookies for over the next week (Valentine's, plus a party at the end of the week.) Is it possible to freeze the dough successfully? I could also make the cookies themselves and freeze them, but I think the end result wouldn't be as good ( Read more... )

Ever since I discovered the Super Awesome Chocolate Cake recipe, I haven't made another cake from scratch since (er, excluding cheesecakes, apple cakes, etc - I mean of that sort of plain frosted cake style. If I'm making sense.) I can't even remember my luck with yellow cakes. And honestly, if it's just a bunch of kids mowing through it, I'd be fine with using a (touch the pearls) boxed cake mix.

I've had a look around and I found an insanely simple yet cute cake which was simply making the cake look like a present, with ribbon made of some Fruit Roll-up substance. Assuming I can find an equivalent here, then I think I'll whip that out for the group party. My secret fear is having to pipe words on the cake, so that's really what I was trying to avoid for that cake. :D For our home party cake, what the hell, who cares.

I LOVE that cake you've linked. And I do love your birthday cake posts. If I can make anything half as entertaining, I'll be happy. really.

The cookies are going to be a cookie bouquet, one for each kid. That is if I can figure out how to properly get these sticks to stay in the cookies. (cookie bouquets might be SO last year in the US, but I am willing to bet they're still reasonably rare over here. We're only just now getting the overpriced cupcake trend, for example.)
