on my mind

I compose entries in my head, when I'm nowhere near a PC, and as soon as I think to post they all just disappear.

First of all, though: lol at your £30 for 12 cupcakes! Please click the link before replying. These are not fancy cupcakes. The style of cupcake there, for those who aren't in the UK, is the normal way of making a cupcake at home here. These are the cupcakes you would see if you went to a child's party, maybe. Perhaps I'd pay that price for 12 cupcakes if they came looking like this or maybe even this. But the sort of thing you'd bake and have your kid decorate? how about no.

Second on the agenda: I've got several new followers, so hello there! You'll find, if you haven't already, that this blog is full of minutiae on random topics. I haven't had a lot of time to post lately, but I'm trying to make an effort to write a bit more. I'd like a bit more of a log of my time with the dude while he's still small. BTW, the dude = my son, and cookieman = my husband. Just for clarity. :)

We've discovered another baby/toddler group, one within walking distance AND a good amount of time. You can arrive anytime after 9:30am, and can stay until noonish. We haven't stayed nearly that long, but I can imagine he'd be happy to. The room is really large (it's a.. whatever boy scouts are here.. branch. I think it's a converted outbuilding, like a barn or so. Definitely an older building, as it takes ages to heat, but remodeled inside) and there's an assortment of large toys/slide/tubes for them to run through, as well as everything for younger ages. He's crawling now, and is really fast. He makes a few circuits of the room, admiring the older kids and dreaming of the day when he'll be chasing them. Okay, that's what I imagine he's doing, anyway. He loves being near the older kids.

A week or two ago I went to a music group with him and my friend E + her daughter. It was fun, though probably not something he needs to go to often until he's a bit older. He really enjoyed his drum (of course.) They had a bit of a free-for-all towards the end, and he just happily crawled into the middle of the roiling mass of toddlers, screeching whenever he felt it appropriate. At one point, some small running child tripped over him, sending them both sprawling. The dude wasn't fazed at all. In fact, he thought it was the best, most hilarious thing ever.

I've got him signed up for some (free) swimming lessons in the new year. I've heard I should have started him on them before now, but hell, who wants to leap into a bathing suit that soon after pregnancy? crazy people, that's who. (or, you know, people who didn't eat so many biscuits as I might have. maybe.)

I've also decided to do more volunteering with the local NCT branch. It sounds as if I'll be assistant treasurer, along with helping to run one of their once-a-month playgroups. I'll learn more on Tuesday evening. I'm looking forward to it. I need to get a few things on my CV, as well as just making myself generally useful.

Alright, I think we're off for a bit here. more later if I think of it.
