Title: Saving My Face (1/1)
Author: sublymonal
Rating: PG, actually.
Disclaimer: They're mine! All mine! Bahahaha. Okay. Fine. No they're not.
Summary: This is raspsun's request fic. The five keywords/phrases I was given were: Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows, Sushi, Franklin Delano Roosevelt, Sirius Satellite Radio, and Socks. Somehow, I worked those five words into this story about what happens when Chris tries to make it up to Blake when he forgets his birthday.

part one

Blake awoke earlier than usual, stretching out in his bed which isn't saying much. The beds in the bus were all big enough for Sligh, so accommodating short little Blake was no hard task. He grumbles when he notices he's the only one in the bus, as usual. Even when he wakes up at the crack of dawn, it seems the other's are somewhere else.

Sanjaya's getting hyped up on coffee. Phil's on the phone with his wife, Sligh's being moody in the corner of some restaurant with the girls sitting around him, eating breakfast. And Chris. Stupid Chris. Up before everyone, even Phil. And he's working out. Going for a jog that lasts hours or something like that. Something Blake didn't even like to think about.
Rather, Blake thinks about breakfast. Syrup drizzled over pancakes, greasy slabs of bacon, scrambled eggs with plenty of cheese - or not.
Apparently there's no breakfast this morning. The only thing in the fridge of the bus is a carton of soy milk and some two day old sushi. "You're kidding..." Blake scoffs to himself, his voice a bit thick from disuse as he lets the door to the fridge swing shut on it's own.
Maybe he will join the ever-moody Sligh and the girls at Denny's.
Blake stumbles back to his bed, throws the covers on top of it so Chris doesn't bitch when he gets back, then searches for his clothes. Jeans tangled with a pair of Chris's boxers (Blake can't help but grin at this), a shirt with vines sprouting from the lower hem and a grey pinstriped hat that might be his or Chris's. Blake pulls everything on drowsily, yawning when the shirt is halfway down his torso, then pads over to the door, barefoot. "Dammit..." He curses again. "Where are my socks?" He searches for a few minutes between his sheets and Chris's clothes from the night before then gives up, sticking his feet in Chris's sandals.

Fifteen minutes later, when he arrives at Denny's, he realizes how big a mistake it was to steal Chris's sandals. Not only might Chris want them when he gets back, but Blake's feet are also nowhere near the size of his. He waddles into the place, the smell of bacon and bitter coffee filling his nostrils. When he gets to the front, a woman with plastic-coated menus seems to recognize him. "Mister Lewis?" She says.
Blake looks at her strangely for a moment. Sure, people recognized him and the other's from time to time but no when ever called him "Mister Lewis" when they did so. It was more of a high pitched screaming and pointing. And at this hour in the morning, that was not something Blake really needed. But, nonetheless, he acknowledges her request for his attention. "Yeah?"
"Your party of ten is just over here..." And she rounds a corner with Blake in tow.
"Party of...?" But Blake doesn't finish his sentence because something has obstructed his view. A tall, lanky something. Sanjaya has jumped from his seat in one of two booths and tackled Blake into a hug. "Happy birthday Shorty!" He says, stealing Blake's hat and putting it on his own head. People are surely staring but Blake doesn't care because the celebrations have certainly caught him off guard and it's awesome to have all his friends here rather than scattered around whatever city they're in today. The party of ten is missing one person. At one table, Jordin, Melinda, and Gina, with two empty spots. At the other, Sligh, Phil, Haley, Sanjaya and Lakisha. Blake sits in next to Gina and she wishes him happy birthday too, still looking a little groggy herself with a plain white mug of the bitter coffee clutched in both hands.
A few minutes later, someone settles down next to Blake as he's discussing what he wants for breakfast with Melinda. She looks like she might be sick at the idea of whipped cream, chocolate chips and chocolate sauce for breakfast. Blake looks over at the person next to him, expecting Chris. His heart drops when he see's it's not Chris, but Sanjaya's sister, Shyamali. "Oh hey Shy." Blake says though the disappointment is evident in his voice. He turns to Gina almost right away and whispers "Where's Chris?"

part two

"He what?!" Blake said loudly. The others turned to look at him but Gina swatted them away. "He went to go buy the new Harry Potter... it came out today, didn't it?" Gina says, not too sure because she doesn't read it. Blake does. Blake knew. But it's Blake's birthday. And Chris is at a freaking bookstore, buying a book, instead of celebrating his birthday with him. Judging by the way Blake was gripping the handle of his coffee mug - to the point that his short fingers turned red - he was angry. But not just that, he was hurt. Hurt as in heartbroken that Chris would just forget his birthday and avoid the surprise the other's had planned to go buy some book. Okay, sure, it wasn't just any book. It was Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows, but still. He could of brought Blake with him. Some friend. Some boyfriend.

Breakfast passed by with much complaining on Blake's part and much shushing and comforting on Gina's part, feeding him with his fork so they could get out of there before 1 o'clock. It was 1:30 when they did.
They had no show to prepare for that night, so Gina planned on taking Blake shopping to comfort him and buy him a gift, then out to a club. Blake, however, was still coming to grips with the fact that he wasn't going to see Chris all day.
"I can't believe him... I can't believe he'd just forget about my birthday completely." Blake was off on a tangent and Gina was window shopping, looking in every store, but never really deciding to go in. Blake continued to rant. Eventually Gina got so fed up of him that she bought him a slushy to shut him up. It shut him up only so long as it remained cold and flavourful. Then, Blake started up all over again, his tongue blue.
"Blake..." Gina says quietly, interrupting his ranting. He's looking the other way so he doesn't really notice her and keeps going. "Blake..." She says again. But still he doesn't stop. "BLAKE LEWIS!" She shouts, covering his mouth with one hand. "Come here and let me buy you a suit. Something that'll make you look good for the finale tomorrow because heaven knows you'll still be hung over." He and Gina had planned to drink all night, figuring it was the only way to numb Blake's brain - though, it might induce more talking. But Gina planned to mask Blake's drunken night with a nice suit and tie. "Sure. Whatever." Blake replied. As long as Chris didn't notice that Blake had spent all night drinking over him like some kind of pathetically clingy ex-girlfriend.
He and Gina looked through racks of pants, shirts, jackets and ties, eventually settling on a few in a variety of pastel colours - which tended to look best on Blake. Blake went to the back of the store to go try them on while Gina waited outside to give him her opinion. Inside the change rooms, Blake removed his phone from his pocket and checked it. No text messages, no voice mails. Nothing. Chris had really forgotten about his birthday.
Blake sighed, looked at himself in the mirror and tried on the first one.
He left the change room to show Gina, pulling the pink shirt down a little bit and adjusting the pants around his waist.
"No." Gina said flatly. "You're too pale for pink."
Blake glared at her then returned to the change room, pulling on a light shade of blue - something a bit more familiar to him. He exited the change room, did up his last button and looked up at Gina. "Yes?" He said, spreading out his arms like wings.
"No." She said again in the same, unimpressed tone.
Blake sighs, a bit aggravated now and returns to the change room to put on a pale yellow shirt. He exits the changing room, paying attention to his fingers as they loop his tie. "Well?" He says, still looking down at his collar as he fixes it.
"Looks beautiful." Chris's voice says.
Blake looks up and Gina's gone. Only to be replaced by Chris, who's in a suit just like him. Except his shirt is the lightest shade of teal, perfect for his eyes. Blake's fingers immediately stop fixing his outfit. "You..." He starts.
"Forgot... I know. But I didn't. I just set you up." A little smiles seems to play off the corner of Chris's mouth and Blake looks at him suspiciously, the silence between them seeming more curious than anything.
"Get your other clothes." Chris says, his tone hinting at whatever's next

part three

With a nod, Blake turns, grabs his stuff and follows Chris over to the cash. Chris helps Blake get rid of all the tags and they ring them in. With one swipe of Chris's credit card, the pair are making their way out of the mall again, to the doors.
"How did you get here?" Blake says, looking over at Chris. He knows Gina's fiancée, Joe, has one of the only cars they can use on tour. Chris looks over at Blake with that grin from before. The one that he knows something Blake doesn't. Blake smiles back because he can't help it, then nudges him hard. "What?! Tell me!" He whines, tugging at Chris's jacket until Chris points at something straight ahead.
Blake's eyes follow along his arm and finger until he spots what Chris is pointing at. It's an old fashioned car - the kind Franklin Delano Roosevelt would of driven around in - and it's classy. Real classy. Blake runs over to it, peering inside then looking at Chris. "No way..." He says and Chris hands him the keys.
Blake takes them, a look of shock on his face, and dives over the door into the car and starts it up. "No way... it's got one of these things..." Blake says, playing with the knob of the Sirius satellite radio imbedded in the dashboard. Chris laughs at Blake's childishness as he straps his seat belt on and flicks his hand away from the stereo. "Drive, I'll find something..." And Chris plays with the knob of the radio until he finds Love Song by the Cure. Chris laughs softly to himself at the irony and leans back in the chair.
"Where am I going?" Blake says.
"Wherever you and Gina were going..." Chris says, attempting to sound casual but sounding more like he planned that too with Gina.
Blake looks over at Chris, one eyebrow perked at his boyfriend's strange nature. "You owe me... for making me think you abandoned me..." Blake says, distracted once he turns back to the road.
"I know..." Chris says, "I think I'll find a way to make it up to you..." And his hand seems to slip down Blake's inner thigh and he leans in to kiss him on the cheek. "Happy Birthday..." He whispers softly in his ear.

The end.

Comment, lemme know how it went.
Again, sex-free? I seem to do that a lot in my request fics.
