A Tarot Haiku

Three cards just leap out
Seeking to resolve tensions?
Turn around, Bright Eyes!

I cast Tarot for myself tonight, somewhat accidentally.  I was shuffling my deck because I was holding them after having showed them off, and the Queen of Cups, the Prince of Cups reversed and the Nine of Wands needed to be flipped from the top of the deck.  This was interesting because of recent connotations of the Queen of Cups, especially in relation to the Prince of Cups.  I saw him yesterday, too, but upright...
All personal apprehensions associated with the Nine of Wands aside (is it indicative that I just typed "nice" instead of "nine"?), the message of that particular card was very clear, so I gave most of my attention to the court cards.
I was unsettled by the fact that the Cups cards were in opposition to one another: younger and older, male and female, upright and reversed, different phases of the moon depicted.  Most notably, the Prince faced the Queen, but the Queen faced away with eyes shut.  I spent a lot of time trying to decide how best to resolve the feeling that the two were out of sync, especially since the Prince seemed to imply that something is going on that I am not aware of, or that I am ignoring.  I was struck by the fact that if the Prince were flipped in place to be upright, then he and the Queen would face in opposite directions, an explicitly antagonistic stance.  On the other hand, if he were to be rotated around the Queen to end up upright on her other side, they'd face one another, which resolves nearly all tension from the spread.  I was so caught up with trying to figure out what those two paths indicated that I almost ignored another option: if the Queen flips in place, the two are reversed but in harmony.  Once I thought of that, the message was clear.
This reading is a perfect example of why I love this deck so much: while the traditional significance of the cards is always interesting and usually illustrative, I can get a full and satisfying message just by analyzing the artwork on the cards.  An additional message of tonight's reading seems to be that I need to be more patient and intuitive and just let myself rely less on the deck's book.
