(no subject)

The summer was a time full of reading in my household. The subjects being read are what made it one of the most interesting summers to date. At the top of my summer reading list were the newly released Harry Potter and the Half Blood Prince. This was largely due to my growing obsession that had accumulated over the past six years. Besides the urge to read Harry Potter I did very little actual reading. The rest of my summer reading was far from that extensive. It included but was not limited to The Onion, horoscopes, and cookbooks. Although any of these materials seem to be closely intertwined the do have quite a few common factors.

The theme of the new Harry Potter Book can be tied into the other reading I did over the summer. The whole life that Harry Potter has endured is due to a prophecy that was for told merely a few months before he was born. A prophecy is very similar to a horoscope. The horoscopes will try to predict the future to some extent as the prophecy in Harry potter did. Along the same lines of comparison the Onion, a newspaper dedicated to the misdirection of the masses and insanely inaccurate and skewed news. This is closely related to the story in Harry Potter by the simple fact that the characters are completely submersed in the idea of misdirection to achieve their goals. With that in mind the cook books that I read at work over the summer seem very similar to potions books that were so crucial to the story of the half blood prince.

This is the extent of my summer reading and the connection is easy to make over all.
