Damn did I enjoy my first weekend in many, many months that wasn't dictated by anyone or any obligations. Not that I haven't had a blast on those weekends, it's just this one I left open and I did want I wanted, or didn't.
Home from work Thursday night, and watched Clash of the Titan's. Of course, I loved it since I have very low standards other than great sound, pic and fx. :)
Friday took care of my debit card that was compromised earlier in the week in Bangla- (the dash don't be silent :) for $1200 at a restaurant, then on Friday for $1400 in Japan (even though the card was closed). So I'm trying to figure out the best way to REsetup all my bill pays. Just finding all the info for each was difficult since I don't even get bills here a the house. They are sent electronically, and I delete them once they are reviewed. So lots and lots of phone calls were made. Couple trips to the bank and my money was returned to my account.
Took care of the lawn, and packed up my bags for an overnight trip to Baton Rouge. Got to Burt's around 7:30, made a beer run to Calandro's (great selection), and spend the rest of the evening at his place hanging out with his sister and Eryn. His boyfriend, Kevin, showed up after he got home from work. We had intentions of going out, but never got around to doing so. Spent the night at Eryn's new house (way cool), and the next morning the 4 of us (-kevin) were off for a day of tubing. It's crazy how we were the only one's who wanted to go. Even with (or because of) just the four of us, we had a blast! Eryn sliced up 4 beautiful melons the night before, and soaked them in either rum or vodka overnight in the freezer. Chicken wings and pizza were also made. Two cases of beer and some water, and we were ready.
Just floating and relaxing and talking and laughing and drinking and floating and relaxing and talking and laughing... you get the idea.
Later on in the day we pulled onto a sand bar and broke out the food and "desert". Wow.
A little later on as the sun hit the tree line, we pulled over again and watched some kids jump off one of the embankments. It was at that point that Burt and I, laying in a few inches of water, fell asleep. That just might have been the second best nap I've taken this summer, and both of them involved laying in water. There might be something to that water/nappy thing.....
Made it back to Burt's, said our goodbye's and I headed back home. Every intention of heading to the Quarter, but just couldn't do it. The only going out I did was on the couch.
Sunday, sadly I forgot to stop in BR the night before and pic up some coffee (Illy) on the way home, so I went without it while reading my paper. Made plans with Monty and Syl on Friday to meet up for late lunch/dinner somewhere on Sunday. Headed on down to the Marigny to their place (2nd home!) and we walked on over to The Marigny Brasserie. Fantastic BBQ Shrimp and Grits. The two Bloody Mary's were pretty good too. Walked quit a few blocks to get to a new place on Rampart called Bar Tonique. All very well mixed hand made drinks and a few different beers. I actually had a couple mixed drinks, which is a rarity for me other than the staples (monsoon or hurricane). Made our way to Lafitte's for a few more beers/socializing and it was a night. Home safe and sound, and much better off for having an incredible weekend.
